Publisher's Description:

TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software. It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting your Partition Table).
TestDisk has the following other editions available: TestDisk for Max OS X (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/TestDisk_for_Max_OS_X/1180970951/2) and TestDisk for Linux (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/TestDisk_for_Linux/1180970951/3).

Might be worth a look and a test drive.
As we have discovered, most recovery software looks and acts similar but some work and others don't.

Downloaded the test-disk version to run on a benched hard drive. Will report back later.

I noticed in the comment area that this is cmd line application. I use Recovery3 to recover data now and it is a gui operation. Have to see how intuitive the cmd line ops are.
