MSFT has a utility that overwrites free space called "SDelete"

Before I try to use this, I'd llke to verify that I don't get myself in trouble by overwriting my hard drive or something I shouldn't. All I want to overwrite is my Free Space.

I *assume* this command is run in: Start | Run

MSFT says the command is: sdelete -z C:

Thanks for your help..

chips,
I strongly suggest you backup your harddrive, or at the very least all of your important data, before running this utility!

Start, Run, type ---> cmd

At the command prompt type ---> sdelete -z C:

Chips, do you have a link to the site where you found this information? I would like to take a look at it. That being said, Kern has a point, back up your infor before you do anything. That is one thing we recomend before doing anything, is to make a complete back up if you can, or at least your important data. That way, if something catastrophic happens, you are protected.

Thanks.. I found it via Kim Komando.. her reference is www.microsoft.com
The programs were written by Mark Russonivitch (sp?) and were bought out by Microsoft. Here is the URL that gives info:
