View Full Version : Ad-Aware VS Ewido
Well, I tried running some malware comparisons on a customers computer, but my time ran short and I was only able to test Ad-Aware and Ewido.
Anyway, Ad-Aware found three serious spyware entries as well as a Win32 TrojanDownloader.
Ewido found the above plus 4 trojans, 1 keylogger, 1 backdoor, as well as numerous spyware entries.
I don't have the actual names of the malware, but I'll post all the pertinant details when I have an opportunity for a complete comparison with many programs.
I can't wait to test Ewido against Nod, Trend, and BitDefender. Hmmm, maybe I'll just infect the hell out of one of my computers for a good comparison test.

I would say ewido beats Ad-Aware, but it depends on the malware. Both combined would be best. ;)
I always thought about infecting my PC just to remove it, but I wouldn't want to reinstall or anything, I can't afford a test PC. :(

Actually, Rich and I have found that we can't afford to NOT have a test pc!
Of course, now might be after the horse already left the barn. I have an Intel 865 mb that allows me to maintain my SATA drive as a boot drive and connect either an IDE or SATA drive for cleaning, imaging, or testing. I can make an image of my drive, disconnect the image drive, and do testing know that the image is securely distanced from the "real" drive. And since I use a bootable floppy when restoring the image - it allows for NO windows contained drivers that might be corrupted, infected, or just plain scrambled to get in the way.
I have not found any of the latest boards to allow for that senario. I have wrestled with IDE drives being slaves off the "cd" channel and wanting to boot from the SATA only to have the IDE drive boot first. And no amount of standing on my head has changed any of that. But the evil genie must have a way to be stuffed back into the bottle.:frown:

That business of mobos with sata and ide drives is making me crazy again.
My current bench machine again has no ability to allow me to scan a client's ide drive as a slave because the minute I plug in an ide drive the damn thing insists on trying to boot to it...I haven't found a bios option to change that...so I finally bought an ide to sata converter which I will use if I have no other choice. I have two ide to usb converters but they do not always work. Unfortunately the best machine to use for bench testing is really a machine with ide drives only,

Tell me about it. :dizzy: I had to change the way my BIOS sees SATA and IDE drives and treat the SATA drive as IDE channel 0 master, the IDE as channel 1 master and CD drive as channel 2 master.
