Do I need Ewido in startup menu?
Edit: Moved to the Virus / Spyware / Firewalls forum for better visibility - TH

You can't get rid of it! It comes right back even if you click to disable the scanning features.
It will remain in startup even if you disable the SERVICE.
It will remain in startup even if you UNINSTALL the program.
That was my experience ridding myself of it on one machine, which took extensive reg purging to make it gone.

Can't say I have ever had that trouble and even so, the fact is would still be running, is that a problem? unless you did not like it.
My meaning was, is it a prog that needs to run to protect, or like SP and AW
do we run it to scan/clean ?

I found no fault with the concept of the program or intended purpose.
If you want it resident as a permenant program, it may be just dandy.
What got me ticked was discovery of a lot of background activity (spotted by AdWatch) leading me to the discovery that it was running as a service consuming resources even after I had turned off the active scanning in the program GUI.
I figured I could eliminate that by removing it from startup. No way, no how ... kept putting itself right back.
I disabled the service.
Still couldn't get it out of startup.
Figured maybe something farkled with the install so I intended to uninstall/re-install to see if that cured it.
It did not uninstall cleanly and left a load of garbage behind including lots of files and reg keys.
That totally ticked me off and I had to rid myself of it for good. It took over an hour of pruning to be totally rid of it, I think, although there may be a few reg keys I missed yet.
I am of the opinion that any program that can't clean up after itself when you uninstall it is crappy programming which makes me question the overall quality of the program. I can't trust a program with sloppy programming like that.

It's a great program. If you want to use it, evidently it has to run instartup, so let it go.
Has anybody emailed ewido support concerning the startup problem?

I suppose an individual would have to believe it is a problem first, I dont, I just need to understand what should be where and when.

I feel the same way. I use eWido strictly as an online checkup as I see no need to add anything else to the mix.

As I've suggested before, I would recommend using ewido_micro, which is the online scan but as an executable. If you use IE as your default browser, I would suggest just running the online scan, but if you use a different browser, go with ewido_micro; that is, if you only want ewido in order to run malware scans.
As for ewido at startup, it's only necessary (to my knowledge) for it to run if you are using the ewido Guard service.

I notice my Ewido does not start up now as the Resident Shield and Auto updates are not operating which suits me so I think vRidia was right
