I know I read this somewhere but I looked and couldn't find it, I installed PalTalk on a new computer and now whenever I start the computer the login box pops up. This after It took me quite awhile to get rid of the Nvivia popup. Anyway I unchecked it in MSCONFIG but it comes right back, so I looked in startup and see where it says Paltalk messenger and uninstall Paltalk Messenger.
I was wondering if I delete these from startup will Paltalk still work. If I don't hear from anybody soon I will find out by doing it...Thanks

I recall a checkbox in PT to start with Windows, uncheck
Remove Pnetaware or whatever it is PT puts in MSCONFIG startup.

Doug,

I went into Paltalk in setup/ preferences and found"show welcome tab on startup" and unchecked that and went into MSconfig and unchecked Paltal, also deleted the entire Paltalk folder in startup but the Paltal box still comes up at startup and the box in Msconfig keeps getting checked. Why are they making this so difficult?

Not sure if this will help, but you can give it a try...

Go to Start > Run > type regedit > click OK > in the Registry Editor, double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > double-click SOFTWARE > double-click Microsoft > scroll down and double-click Shared Tools > double-click MSConfig > double-click startupfolder and startupreg and see if there's anything in there that has to do with Paltalk.

Rvidia,

Thanks for the suggestion and I followed your directions and found the palstart reference. Being as I have been trying since last night to get this to stop popping up I was pretty frustrated so I just deleted any refernce to Paltalk. To my surptise when I rebooted the machine I found the Paltalk box still pops right up at startup. I'm ready to uninstall it completely..

logon to Pal Talk
SETUP tab
MISC tab
show welcome tab on startup

Think that may be it.
BTW: get the Mike Lin Startup tool, much easier than msconfig

I have the latest Paltalk (8.3 version), and there's no Paltalk in startup.

Larry, this is probably off the wall, but here's what I think I did:

Start > Run > Msconfig > System Configuration Utility > Startup, uncheck Paltalk, restart computer.

....may be too elementary, and you probably already did this.

A message i sent earlier..

Lina,

That was the first thing I tried and it keeps putting the check mark back and I keep taking it out.

theres also a shortcut in the XP startup folder- click start, programs, startup, remove the reference to Paltalk.
that should do it.

Kern,

I cleaned out the startup folder awhile back and still get the startup. I just followed Palstart to Doc and settings/allusers/startmenu/programs/startup/palstart

When i tried to delete palstart I received this message:

Cannot Delete Palstart : Access Denied

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use..

I then went back and tried to delete the whole startup folder only to be told:

Startup is a windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted..

I cannot believe I am the only one that has paltalk on startup and can't get rid of it?

Rob, thanks for that reminder!

Which makes me ask:

- Is Paltalk Messenger really out of startup on my computer?

I have Paltalk Messenger in Start > Programs > Startup, but it stays unchecked in Start > Run > Msconfig > System Configuration Utility > Startup.

BTW, I do have the Paltalk Messenger icon on my desktop for easy access, but no Paltalk icon in the system tray or quick launch.

at this point, i'd uninstall and reinstall Paltalk

Did you exit out of Paltalk before trying to remove it? If you did and it's still showing up, I'd re-install PT as Rob suggested.

Try eliminating Paltalk from "Winpatrol" before unchecking from "startup' in the "system configuration utility".

casey,
may also be a good idea to run JV16 to remove all references to Paltalk.

no.
delete the Paltalk item in that folder.

Oooops! Almost goofed! The items I thought were in that Programs Startup folder may actually just be listed programs which I don't see anywhere else in Programs. (I have everything magnified on the computer, Programs is crowded, all of which makes it even easier for me to get confused.)

It looks like the Startup folder just contains Adobe Reader Speed Launch.

I give up. It looks like:

- Nod32 and Win Patrol are checked in msconfig, and their icons appear in my system tray but not in Programs Startup.

- Adobe is checked in msconfig startup, is in Program Startup but not in system tray.

- Other items checked in msconfig startup don't show up as icons in the system tray or in Programs Startup.

:noidea:.... .... :frusty:.... :hurt:

I'll back off and leave well enough alone. It's all a non sequitur to me!

Well I just uninstalled Paltalk and it asks should they delete all files and I said yes, then I re-installed off the internet in case I had a faulty file. Everything went like I would normally want it to and I then logged on and unchecked Show welcome tab on startup and closed out. Then went into MSCONFIG and uncheck Paltalk and rebooted only to have Paltalk start up as the computer booted. I'm at a loss for what to do.

Have you tried shutting down and doing a cold reboot after unchecking ?

Yes, I tried that a couple of times. I even tried rechecking the PT setup and then unchecked after a cold boot. I never had this before.

afaik "show welcome tab" setting refers to whether or not to display the "welcome tab" in the main paltalk window- the other tabs are "pals" and "chatrooms"

if i remember correctly, after installing Paltalk, an icon is added to the taskbar notification area (by clock) which has startup settings you can change.

the only other thing i can think of is the "palstart" listing in the Start/Program/ Startup folder that i mentioned previously.

Did you try this? ... Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) > click the Processes tab > select pnetaware.exe > click End Process, and then try removing PT again.

Rvidia, you just saved my sanity. I followed your directions and the box didn't popup.I just checked and the palstart in MSCONFIG is UNCHECKED. Great so many thanks. I was ready to quit and uninstall it for good and I usually don't do that.. Thanks again..

So glad it worked!!! :D It's been a long thread.

If you want Paltalk to not be listed in MSConfig, I'd double check the registry (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=7974#post7974) to make sure everything in 'startupreg' is gone (you'll know after by not seeing anything PT-related in MSConfig Startup).
