View Full Version : Ewido online scan problems.
In the last couple of months, the Ewido online scan and Ewido Micro have been crashing. More specifically, either Ewido will crash, or cause IE to crash when there is moderate to severe infections.
I've repeatedly confirmed this and will suspend use of the online scans. I'll also check out the Ewido forums for further information.

Which online scan do you suggest in the meantime? I've been using
Ewido online scan weekly with no problems...... but I don't need any
problems!:)
I use BitDefender as my regular AV.
Thanks.

Lina,
You can continue to use it. It's not going to cause any problems on your computer.
The crashing only exists when numerous infections are present.

Thanks, Seth. Good to know. I do that after my weekly full
BitDefender scan. Then Ewido always only finds 2 cookies,
medium risk, which I have it delete. Don't know how to stop
their return or if I should try to.
Lina.
Those cookies are fine Lina.

You know I haven't had it crash at all, but I haven't seen it as effective as I used to think it is. When I had the rootkit problems, it didn't find it and Spybot not only found it, it removed it so I have gone back to using Spybot as a result.

Rich,
There's good reason why professional malware removal sites recommend the user download and run Ewido before posting their HijackThis log. The reason of course, is that experienced malware removers working with real world systems know that Ewido's detection ability for Adware AND trojans is second to none.
The comparisons that I posted here are only two of many. I compare scanners on a daily basis and the two comparison tests that I posted are typical results of all my comparisons.
The installed version of Ewido does not experience the crashing problem. I'll stick with that and SAS as my tools of choice.
