If I zip along to here; http://www.ip-adress.com/
and view my supposed location on the map, why is it different to where I actually am.
I know for a fact that there is nothing there, no exchange or nothing.
The location given does exist but is miles away from me.

Wow! That is so kewl!
It got the town right but the big version seems to think I live in a parking lot! It is actually within several blocks from my house. Probably the origin point of my cable node.
Anyway, kind of a nifty tool!

It usually is the origin of the ip distributing machine (AKA dhcp server). Since I have Comcast, it will usually distribute to the network office 2 towns away from me, because they are the ones responsible for the ips. However, if you have a static ip (one that doesn't change) many providers will provide the address of your location along with the ip information.

Suppositly if and when the US switches IPv6, the address are suppost to represent the longitude and latitude of the device.

The longtitude and latitude give the exact same location Phelyx, again about 3 miles from my place.
It's weird.

It will show who your ISP is MZ but are you certain that your location matches the location on the map in large scale?

I am not so lucky as you people. Mine shows the correct IP Address and location and that too accurately. :frown:
