Hi there,
My friend approached me the other day saying that she had a virus, I asked here what it was..and this is what i have made from it....

I had it a while back - But can't rmeber what it is called..or how to get rid of it....

A popup apears regually in the centre of screen....then installs on the system tray..and pops up in corner saying you need to buy such and such antivirus software to get rid of it
..but really it downloads more viruses.

If that makes sense to anyone, please could you tell me how to get rid of it!?
She has already got McAffee Antivirus on there - not sure about firewlal e.tc....but i have recomened she installs AVG Antivirus....not heard any more since..

Please can you help
Cheers.

SR,

If you hear back from your friend, can you ask to her join KH and post her issue in this forum? It would be easier to relay instructions directly to her.

If for some reason she can't or won't join, then about the only suggestion I can provide is for her to run some good scanners.

I would get to her to download SuperAntiSpyware and run a complete scan. Make sure she updates it first (very important). She can then follow up with an online Ewido scan and/or online BitDefender scan.

Let me know if you need more information.

BTW- It's obvious Mcafee isn't protecting the system, as I guarantee that malware is not alone. Once the system is clean, we can talk about better internet security.

Good luck.

Ok thanks Seth.
I'll tell her that info, along with to join KH.

I'll keep her going on those good virus scanners then.

Yes, I at the end i was going to tell her to keep one of her prefered good antivirus...and recoomend her a good firewall/anti firewall.

Cheers for now!

Speakersrock, I think that is the one I have been fighting all month and Sas will remove it, but if you catch it quick enough, she can uninstall it from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs as Antivirus Pro (it is the predecessor of Win Antivirus and Super Antivirus were other names for it and they do exactly what you say. The odds are the MacAfee has been neutered which is the first thing it does. There is no time to lose on this one as once it gets fully entrenched she will have to reformat as nothing will remove it then.

No. Rich meant WinAntivirus. There is no such thing as SuperAntivirus.

Go ahead with my instructions.

Used to be Win Antivirus and sometimes Superantivirus but now Antivirus pro.
www.superantispyware.com is correct address for "Superantispyware"

It would still be a good idea for her to run the scans, as for every visible form of malware, there is usually two or three that are invisible to the average user.
