Through the years and it's over 10 years now, we have listened to ideas to help the Wednesday Night Paltalk Chatroom, but we haven't asked for a while.
One last time before it closes forever, please tell us what you would like to see in it's place? Maybe monthly? Maybe a different night? Maybe during the day and tell us the day though daytime would be difficult for those of us who work.
We have tried topics, everyday, guest speakers but all of that is tough to do on a weekly chat. maybe it should be monthly, maybe a week is too much to expect. While it is still alive, please give us your opinions one more time.
If you don't, well that too tells us something and makes the end easier!

Okay, I'll try to be there around 9 pm every Wednesday and forgo my
Spanish soap operas. :( I've tried to be there at 11 pm when they are over,
but I'm often too sleepy or have dozed off.
So I'll be there tonight with a huge cup of caffeine! Hope you all will join
us.

KH on Paltalk is great in getting to know each other and no other forum offers this. It is informative and fun to boot! I would hate it to stop. Having said that, circumstances have changed somewhat for me and I am not able to attend every week. I like the idea of once a month and could plan around that. My suggestion for day and time is that you and Rob and Dan decide what is good for you and announce that as the time. The three of you are the backbone and Paltalk would just not be the same without all three of you being able to attend.
I wish to thank you for the time and the effort that you put in to make this successful for the rest of us. If Paltalk goes down, we are the losers.

Heck Lina, I wish I could be there with you tonight. I was there last week and so hoped that you would be there as well. We've all been missing you on Paltalk! When I said that Rich, Rob and Dan were the backbone, just a few months ago I would have included you and I now hope that your health improves enough for you to attend all the time. Wonderful as it is, I liked it best the way it was - Lina opening and closing the room and of course, those wonderful summaries which I know that you can no longer do. I just wanted to make sure you knew how appreciated you are!

More controversy :mad2:
Really nothing gets people involved faster than a good heated discussion!
Rich, it is hard to generate an audience when we can't seem to get a "gotcha" plug.
For example (and this is just off the top of my head so it may sound weird LOL ), putting up a poll on KH for the week's topic(s). That way "we" could bone up on some sites, knowledgebase articles, and experiences to add spice to the next PT get together. The gotcha is these topics can NOT be discussed until AFTER Paltalk.
For instance, tonight we could take a verbal poll on how to setup the poll. What time frame should be given for the discussion, do we need a "guest" for a specific topic, what time should the discussion begin, etc. The reason for the beginning time is to allow everyone to gather in the "lobby" and have some chit-chat before we dig into the topic.
Then put up a poll on Thursday for the following week.

Vivienne, I don't blush easily, but I'm blushing now .. .. Thank you.
I got hooked on the Spanish soap operas when I had to lie down on my
recliner so much during my recovery. While hospitalized, I missed the
final episode of my favorite Korean soap opera! .. :(
Unless I get a new TV and a VCR/DVD, I'm not going to be taping anything.
Maybe buying a laptop would be more cost-effective and allow me to keep
an eye and an ear on the TV and the chatroom at the same time. The
programs only run for 9-12 months. Am going to make a concerted effort
not to get hooked on any new ones and find other ways to brush up on
my Spanish.
Regrettably, I don't think I'll again be able to do the summaries. They took
too much time and effort -- I was too nit-picking trying to make them easy
to read and was not computer-savvy enough to always report everything
accurately. :(
Talk to you the next time we meet.....in the chatroom. :)

I hope to join in with a mic tonight. What about having the session during a weekend afternoon or evening? If the session goes to late during the week day it can sometimes cause an issue with work the next day.
I'm like Dan. More controversial topics and debates. There should be games rules so the discussions don't become personal. Maybe bi-weekly sessions would be better?

So, to please the tech addicts ;), what do we do to fill in periods of silence
when there is no tech talk?
Yup, I remember that Dan used to leave if we got off on non-tech topics,
and we may have also turned off Tony and Pete. However, we usually were
careful not to discuss politics or religion. Many of us engaged in non-tech
conversation in the text box when the verbal (mic) conversation was an
ongoing one and not of interest to us. And we used the mic for non-tech
conversation when there was no tech topic introduced via text or mic.
However, we really have to be careful to make sure we don't ignore or
crowd out anyone in the text box and pay attention and allow others to use
the mic when they "have their hand up."

The idea of a poll for topics is outstanding and that one we can do right away if we stay!

Lina,
I LEAVE when the discussion is MEDICAL.
Or I am hearing the same discussion for the 3rd week in a roll. The Writer's Guild strike has me already watching 50's, 60's and 70's stock tv (FIOS is great - I can watch the original Mission Impossible, Combat, Rat Patrol, )
Now if I could only find Gidget, The Singing Nun, Fury, Lone Ranger, Superman, Mighty Mouse, . . . . . . .

There is something that I tried so hard not to do in my businesses and here it shows up all over again and that is making a rule for something that almost never happens that pisses off everyone else! I.E. Tony and Pete almost never show up so let's talk politics again! We did better when any topic was allowed! of course we always stopped for a tech problem...think about it that is the flavor of KH anyway!

Lina,
I LEAVE when the discussion is MEDICAL.
Afraid you'll catch something? ..
Are you a recovering hypochondriac and need to avoid such discussions? .. :)
Doug's role as a paramedic allows him to enlighten us as well as entertain
us with tales of his escapades. You missed some good laughs. (I do
realize you know it all and would not learn anything, Mr. Grumpy! .. ;))
I guess we would be able to discuss Doug's other talent (cooking) without
upsetting you, Dan....unless we got into nutrition?
Just kidding. Different strokes for different folks, and we don't want you to
have one!

You're correct in that I don't want to talk politics, but that's just me - a member of one. If you think more will join in the discussion on Weds night or any other night, then go for it. If I show up, and it's been correctly stated that I don't normally show up, and the discussion is politics, I can simply leave.
One has to look at what works. What are the higher rated tech rooms doing that KHW isn't?
It's a Catch 22. If you want to attract the techies, you need to talk tech but how can you talk tech if the techies aren't there? It's tough. How did the other higher rated rooms get to where they are?

I like that idea as well. It's great.
KH is a technical help forum. It should be left that way and promoted that way. However, just because it is a technical forum does not mean that any subject is taboo. Some socializing happens in the very strictest of specialized groups. It just evolves that way. Right now KH is a very comfortable place to be. No one is muzzled and all are treated respectfully and the tech help is unbeatable.

I'm fine with it the way it is, but also would be fine if modified as others had suggested

The poll is a decent idea. I think development of an agenda for each week would be great. We could have an ongoing post or thread at this site to help solicit topics for the agenda. Users can suggest topics and the moderators and administrator can decide on the topics that will be covered. It would be nice if the agenda were posted before the Paltalk session. I'd also like to see the users name after the topic so we know who suggested it.
Sorry Lina. It does seem like the topics should all be tech or pc related. After all, what is the name of the Paltalk room????? Those wishing to discuss religion or politics can visit the many, many other Paltalk rooms that are available.
Ok folks...room is open and we have a nice crowd...16....come on in!!!

For the record, I never said I don't enjoy talking politics.
Quite to the contrary as I've been heavily involved in politics
in the past and talking politics is an interesting topic for me.
What I probalby said that Rich is now misinterpreting is that I
think if you open the topics to politics or religion you stand to
cause problems between members because those are highly
emotional issues.
I enjoy talking politics, but I will personally avoid it here at KH
forums because I'm here mainly for the tech stuff and talking
politics has so much potential to create hard feelings and
problems between the members.

Pete,
I just was referring to the fact politics bothered you when it started on Paltalk...not that you didn't want to discuss politics and by your words my memory was correct.

Pete,
I just was referring to the fact politics bothered you when it started on Paltalk...
Rich you still don't get what I mean.
It has nothing to do with my personal preferences.
In fact, I don't ever recall the topic turning to politics
when I attended Paltalk. If it had, I probably would
have joined in but been sorry for it later due to strong
differences with other members.
All I'm saying is that opening the topic of politics or
religion on a TECH forum has potential for disaster
if the main goal is to be a TECH Forum.

I'm just briefly reading the above post about the polling for topics and what not. I'm curious is Paltalk set to purposely to gain more forum members still... is that the goal of it.
If not I really have to recommend that everyone migrates to Skype or some other medium and work a conversation with that. I for one would love to ask someone about their experience on something on the fly without having to use the Paltalk application...
Yes I still hate Paltalk. I'm working to get VoIP intergrated into my email :).
