Well I wanted to come here and express my thanks to everyone that showed up right away while the night is fresh in my mind.
Another big night as we surged to about 26-27 people at one time mainly RichM, Rob, Lina, Dan, Doug, Cdn Girl, Allheart, Lawrence,Elliot, Stevie, MyHardriveisata, June, Deedee, snowgoose, Tony, Photolady,John Campi,Annie, loop and many more.
The monumental project to repair June's friend's notebook is done with all working well and we talked about backup solutions for her and this notebook to prevent that from happening again.Password seems to be an issue in recovery Console with Dell cd where you have to create new password to get in and use it and so she ran checkdisk and then "fixmbr" and the laptop is fine now. In 2 weeks we will actually help her make an image file and backup files and data with Acronis LIVE on Paltalk.
We talked about hard drive issue for me posted on KH were glad to hear Cindy on new mic Tony sent her in the mail and struggled to get Photolady up on Vista with mic but I personally think it was a driver issue like I faced in early Vista days where she needs to use XP driver on Soundblaster card to overcome it.
Helped deedee with startup issues as messenger programs you cannot eliminate from msconfig, you need to go into the actual programs in "tools" Options" and kill the "run at startup" there.
Dan actually had a real mic for a change so many people heard him for the first time.
We ended about 12:15, started at 8PM and had 8-9 people with us by 8:25 so the earlier start time makes some sense and we will continue it next week and test out the idea for a while.
Now we will let Lawrence add his version...get ready folks to follow the serpentine trail now.....

Good Evening Everyone, this is an accurate report of the Paltalk Chat! (As it happened on 28-2-08 notice the proper date format! you chaps are a day behind!)
Firstly I must complain about being there and finding no KH room in the designated area, i waited until 20 minutes past 2100hrs USEST and still no one showed!!
I then discovered I was a day early, it was actually Tuesday, but that is no excuse!!
The globe should have turned more quickly!!
Any way when the room was opened 23 hrs later I was there again, This 2000 Hrs USEST opening is interesting.
The session began with discussions about different things that Rich had found, the mic must have been stuck to hi lips and the PTT key locked!
Very interesting subjects were covered, one fellow was asking about problems he was having with his 750 gig hard drive, (I have never even seen one) anyway Rich was super intelligent sounding and the poor fellow went on his way with the misguided opinion he had found Pandoras magic box of incredible intellect and good instructions.
June appeared and the room was spellbound as she related how Allheart and she had fixed this cranky laptop she had that all the kings men couldn't fix.
Allheart appeared and made here debut with a mic online, a bit like Edisons first speech on the telephone, wow that girl is interesting. She would have made a decent man even!
Momma was absent and made some pithy excuse when she eventually arrived, but as always was incredibly charming.
John got his new memory and Memtested it satisfactorily so now is free to go back online and see how quickly his Vista machine can be malware affected. A bit like getting a gun ant then receiving the bullets to go shoot yourself!
PL had mic problems and after a lot of assistance could not increase the audio level, I hate to say it but no one mentioned talking closer to the mic! (which was probably the trouble)
Dan waffled on with a lot of garbage as usual talking through his toilet bowl!
Some more faces showed and went, but one interesting thing is when you are in the paltalk session, if you rightclick the peoples names you get a PM ability, and boy there are some good looking birds with their pictures hiding in there!
Checkout CDNgirl and Allheart, just to whet your appetite!!
But don't tell the others you can do this! (especially that Rich fellow!)
If you want to see something horrible check his PM out! Yuk!
So while doing all this high tech stuff it is hard to follow the text box, probably a load of rubbish anyway!!
So we had a great time, Momma, Allheart June, Dee, Cdngrl, PL, and some other riff-raff fellows that nobody wants to know about were there.
I think Rob, MHD, Elliot, Tony (nice fellow here), John, Dan and Rich were there and many others, even our Kiwi friend Rob showed. (another decent fellow, pity he is a kiwi!)
Rich described himself as a chimney and I do suggest it was a true statement! (as in a concrete stink pipe!)
And it was loads of interesting stuff and a lot of fun!
The highlight of the day was the word "Linux" that was mentioned somewhere along the way.
This report is a factual and accurate, all names have been shown to protect the innocent!
Thanks for a great afternoon, evening (or whatever it is where you are) everyone!
Cheers, Lawrence.

Lawrence,
I was in my DUNGEON
If your going to report - get it right! :mad2:
If you (anyone but Lawrence) have read Rich's recap of last nights meet - you will note he said I had changed mics. I actually didn't change mics - I changed computers and brought the mic with me. I had to do some prep work for a client's new computer so I migrated to my office (the dungeon) from my study. The computer there is a high end unit I built last May so it has a completely diffferent sound unit installed.
So I can only think that MOST of the quality of a mic has more to do with the sound installed system than the mic it's self.
I will jump over to another computer (I built at the same time) and see if that unit has a different effect on Paltalk next week.
And Lawrence, would you ever think I would pass on anything but GARBAGE :D

Good Evening Dan, please excuse me while I reel my first marlin in!!
Boy this is a big one!!
I can't wait to see if I can get another!!
BTW your mic level was slightly higher with the different computer but the quality was similar.
I actually wondered when Rich said you had changed mics, I really didn't hear much difference to normal apart from volume.
I was going to suggest changing the thing in front of the mic, but thought better of it! LOL!
You must have a fan or something running in the background.
I enjoyed that episode. And yes i agree Riches promise is lacking!
Cheers, Lawrence.

Edison didn't have anything to do with the telephone, it was Bell.
The mind is the second thing to go.
Elliott
We had a 'full house' again last night, making it three weeks in a row, and I'd like to thank everyone who joined in. It's great to see the renewed interest in the chatroom, so the room will be open one hour early again next week-- 8PM Eastern Time USA.
Hope to see you there!

Good Morning All, about the Edison thing, Elliot knows and was in on the fun, We all know the true inventor was Tesla! LOL!
We also know the first floppy drive was back in the early 1900's and was actually a mechanical transmission system. (sometimes referred to as sloppy drive, using leather disks as universals)
This was an interesting point that Dan raised, so we don't really appear to have a definite answer about magnetic floppy first use date.
Next weeks question might be "Who invented the first tyre and what is it in reality" ?
(those round things!)
Meantime I have a boat load of marlin here! LOL!
That was a shame BM, it was a good session, a little birdie tells me you have a new 19 inch monitor now! Wow! Congratulations!
Don't feed this new one coffee or chocolate, the previous monitor probably died from indigestion!
These Paltalk sessions are the greatest fun, for anyone that has missed out you might give one a try!
Very stimulating stuff!
Cheers All, Lawrence.

John got his new memory and Memtested it satisfactorily so now is free to go back online and see how quickly his Vista machine can be malware affected. A bit like getting a gun ant then receiving the bullets to go shoot yourself!
I resemble that remark, Lawrence! So far so good with the pc and the replaced RAM and removed BitOffender (BitDefender) antivirus. I really can't blame my favorite OS of all time, Vista. In my opinion, this is the best OS available right now. I really don't think you can come up with any negative comments about Vista without at least giving it a try. I agree - Windows Defender and the UAC are not the best part of the OS, but they can be switched off and don't present an issue. After all, I still think the intent of the UAC is good as it would prevent malicious software from installing on your system. The theory of the UAC is a good one, but the execution of the application isn't well done. I'm back to loving the powerful Intel Core 2 Quad and my laptops just can't touch this powerful and speedy desktop creation.

John, Is there a way to turn off the UAC without getting the constant annoying reminders and threats? I found a set of instructions months ago and followed them to a T and on reboot the "threats and reminders" are suppossed to disappear. Mine won't leave me alone!!!!!!:mad2: So I have the annoying UAC enabled. I went wrong somewhere?

It is a 3 part approach Allheart. In Control Panel, User Accounts,"Turn User Account Off", then in Security Center in Control Panel, "change the way security center alerts me" to "Don't ever alert me", and in "Services" in "Administrative Tools", Control Panel find Windows Defender and click it open and disable it. Then life will be well. Hope that helps.

Lawrence, I think it's an excellent topic for discussion and I don't think I'm in the minority on this. In light of the fact that IT IS a subject of concern for many members here at KH, it just seems like a good choice. Certainly it's better than all of the "behind the scene" frantic, often confusing and misunderstood, pm'ing going on behind the scenes, that so many of us are taking part in. It's my understanding that KH wasn't built on the "behind closed doors policy"! It might be good to clear up some misunderstandings, a lot of confusion, as well as actual KH policies. You can count me in, anyone else???

Out of curiosity, as I am quite new here, can someone be banned permanently from the Paltalk Chatroom by Dan 12869 for trying to find out what he doesn't want them to know about that everyone is stuffing under the sheet in that other post by some Nick character?

Welcome, Claire! I'm also retired and female. We need more of both
to keep some of our rambunctious members in line .. :)
I hope we can help you evolve into a mildly funny peacemaker .. ;)
When some of our members deviate from our guidelines, we try to rein
them in with diplomacy and humor, some of it tongue-in-cheek, whatever
seems to work best without denigrating anyone.
I'd like to draw your attention and our members' attention to:

Thanks so much for sharing that with us momma, and also Nick who provided me with the subject matter Dan123960 was sweeping under the sheet. Now having read the rules, can someone please point out to me why a post about the banning of all those posters is against the rules? I don't see stated anywhere that you cannot reference another forum in those rules momma sent me to and it also seems odd to me that the person who authored the rules, was also one of the ones banned in that thread?

Claire,
You are just not getting it. . . .
IF we wanted to carry on the discussion WE would have left the thread on the forum.
WE made a decision based on the subject, feedback, and negotiations with others involved and a decision was made and that decision will stand.
When YOU create a forum, appoint mods and admins, and decide on what rules AND guidelines you want to operate within I will be more than happy to abide by YOUR rules and guidelines.
As others have stated in previous threads - we are VERY liberal in many of the postings but there is a limit to all things.
We (the mods and admins of KH and ONLY the mods and admins of KH make decisions for this forum) receive many pm's about threads that are questionable or have slants to them that are not appropriate to the sender. Those postings are read, discussed among the mods and admins, and an action is met with consensus. As Nick brought out - not everyone of us agree with the others BUT a consensus IS reached.
That action can be:
(1) Removing the specific posting.
(2) Contacting the specific poster for clarification.
(3) Editing the post to remove just the questioned quote.
(4) Removing the entire thread from the forum.
(5) Contact the sender as to what they understood the posting to represent.
or
(6) No action is taken The thread and postings are left intact.
Cindy has stated in another thread here that you are feisty! Fine, I have no problem with that - and your other postings have been very informative in the tech area. But as I have stated now for the third time - it is sometimes best to leave a sleeping dog lie.
And YES I am the grumpy - Donna (BM) custom made that icon for me!

Good Morning "Family" it seems that there is some interesting material that might be better not mentioned in public on this site, most especially in written form, these kinds of things are normally due to misinterpretation or hearsay and might be better not appearing at all.
So what say we save it for the chat session and then we can all have a better appreciation of the responsibilites of administration and issues involved as to application.
I do believe a balanced understanding is the best way to consider any issues and clear up mis-understandings, bearing in mind the various protocols involved.
It sounds like that chat session could be very interesting and enlightening.
Personally I like the "Soylent Green" Idea!

Good Morning All, yes Tony, as with all women "NO" usually means "yes" they have a language all of their own!
Everything generally has the opposite meaning to anything expressed.
Isn't it nice being a technical man! LOL!
Actually I think allheart is almost clever enough to be a man!
She certainly is up there!
I think a little tiff over a malware problem may have upset the applecart.
Treating the actual root problem rather than the symptom or after affect is the way to sort this out!
