Win ME won't shut down

OK - I'm gonna have to eat my words from earlier today when I said that I didn't think ME was worthy of the bad reviews I've heard.

I have an ME machine in here that I cleaned so that it can be used by someone else. I removed unneeded applications and deleted personal info.

Now when I choose shut down, the monitor goes black but the box seems to continue to run. There are lights on the keyboard and the hard is still spinning. I hold the power button for a few seconds to get it to power off.

What could I have done? I don't remember if it shuts downs by itself or gives the message on the monitor that it's OK to shut down your computer.

Good Morning Gentlemen, You may find running the "scanreg /fix" command may help.

Forgot to mention - Scan Disk fixed the problem.
