That is an anti-virus and since you are using NOD32 you dont need that.

And you need to describe what problems you are having. Do you still get XPAntivirus pop-ups?

After removing the above, I ran SAS--no problems. Then I ran XoftSpySE antiSpyware Scanner . Here is the result:

Get rid of XoftSpy, its crap and just shows up false positives.

Let's see if there are any leftovers.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply

Went to Program Files -- nothing was there that said "Authentium".

Went to Common Files -- there is a folder for Authentium but no files that say "uninstall"

What do I do at this point? Idea? Can I get rid of it by using JV16Pro?

Hi Sam

Ive taken a long hard look at those logs and there is nothing in them. You do need to go to open Hijackthis and select Miscellaneous Tools then Uninstall manager and uninstall these.
Authentium AntiVirus SDK
XoftSpySE

They are both listed in the DSS log so should be there.
As there are no files or folders belonging to XPAntivirus it couldnt have been installed. If you want extra piece of mind, run this next scan and post the log.

Lets run an F-Secure online scan it will scan for Viruses, Spyware and RootKits:

Click HERE (http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml)
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Start Scanning button. A window will pop up.
Allow the Active X control to be installed on your computer, then click the Accept button
Click Full System Scan and allow the components to download and the scan to complete.
If malware is found, check Submit samples to F-Secure then select Automatic cleaning
When cleaning has finished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)
Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post

If Automatic cleaning with Submit samples hangs, click Cancel, then New Scan

When the cleaning option is presented, Uncheck Submit samples to F-Secure
Click Automatic cleaning
When cleaning has finished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)

Well there you go Sam, there is nothing there. XoftSpy's false positives perhaps worried you. You did remove those two programs?

You can delete the DSS icon then delete this folder

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked exit HijackThis and reboot.


Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
Click Start > Control Panel.
Click Add/Remove Programs.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) (5th one down the list), which is JRE6u6, and click Yes at the page warning. Under "Platform" select Windows, then check the box to accept the Licence Agreement. Click Yes at the second page warning before downloading the Offline file.
There is no need to download the Sun Dowload manager but it is optional.


Finally, post back with a new HijackThis log.

I do not use Windows Restore Points. I faithfully on the 1st of every month do a FULL backup and every Friday during that month do an Incremental backup using Acronis. Would you suggest I turn on Windows XP Restore Points?

Hi Sam

As long as you have backups I shouldnt think you would need them. I never use SR myself, it never works properly for me, when I have used it, and Windows Repair, none of my programs work afterwards. That seems to be a Compaq/HP issue though.

Authentium is still there, Sam. That means two av's are running. But we can soon remove that.


We need to stop a Service
Click "Start" button then select "Run..."
Type services.msc then hit OK
Scroll down and find the service called:

dvpapi

Right-click on Service and choose "Properties"
On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service
Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled"
Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility



Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe).

Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt2

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.


Post back with the OTMoveIt log and a new HijackThis log, please.

Some malware camouflage themselves as dvpapi.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder, thoujgh I did not see that...and I was concerned where Sam never mentioned using Command Antivirus. Great Job!!!!

Hey folks: I didn't mean to lean on Scotty. Yes, Scotty was a big help but a Thank You goes to everyone that contributed.
