Naw, I'm not interested. Anything bigger than a 17" panel is overkill and I don't need to have a "status" symbol on my desk anyway - I am the only one who sees it :fish:

I don't know if I agree about it being overkill. I've been looking at some 19 & 20" widescreen monitors on ebay. I've been tracking a Viewsonic and Dell monitor. Both offer DVI, which my video card also supports. The prices don't seem bad. The cost is about $265 + $39 for shipping. I offered the seller $250 including shipping, but he went nuts on me. I made this low offer because I'm not really in a hurry or feel that I don't NEED the bigger monitor as my current one is a 17" Dell.

I agree. before I would consider 19", I'd get new glasses.

I'd say I'm a little older then both you guys.. I wanted another LCD for a system I'm now using a CRT on and since this 19" is cheaper or just as cheap as the 17" Rich recommended not that long ago I thought it was a good deal.. The final price with tax was $250 shipped.

I guess I'd better call Dell and change my order as I can get a 17" for only $40 MORE. I'm sure at my age I don't want to be accused of getting a bigger monitor for a "status symbol". In fact I should just cancel and look in my storage room as I'm sure I still have some 15" crt's that work.

Meh, get the monitor and be happy with it. No reason to not enjoy yourself and your environment. Right now I have two lcd's, a 17" and a 15", both being replaced shortly with a pair of 19 or 20"'s. No matter what work you do, it makes things easier. Video work, photo work, even just coding, a bigger monitor and more space can make you more productive.

Dell is offering more LCD choices to customers, both in wide and normal aspect ratios

The 20" Dell widescreen looks really sweet, but I bet the cost is pretty high. Mind me asking what the cost is including shipping? I kind of disagree with Rich on this one. Yes, the bigger screen is a luxury. However, you do get to see much more of the spreadsheet or file on a widescreen monitor. I have this on a 17" laptop and really enjoy it. The old 4:3 ratio screens are disappearing fast.

I agree with Rich M. somewhat. I think I'll wait a little longer. I like the widescreen monitors. Maybe when the 20" widescreen monitors become more affordable I'll go for one. Right now they are too expensive. I do like how much a widescreen will show you.

;) I don't want to start up another discussion on size of monitors but I must say after using this Dell 19" monitor it is great. I have a Norcent 15" which was the first one I bought and a MAG 17" plus a 17" Dell and all are LCD's but for these old eyes I cannot tell you how much better this 19" is for everything. I know this is only the third day of use but the difference is that great.

Larry I hear ya on "the old eyes"...and in that respect I probably agree with you.

I'm gonna stay with my 17" for a while. It's a Dell with dvi and works fine. I just would like a 19 or 20" widescreen monitor, but the prices are still too high. My laptop has a 17" widescreen and you really get used to the format. It provides a really large area for working on spreadsheets and word processing.

I also have a Dell 17" with DVI and one of the reasons I thought this was a good buy, which by the way the 19" also has DVI, was it was the same price as the 17"..
