Have any of you tried Virtual Magnifying Glass or know someone who has? It's free. I like the idea that the magnifying "glass" is movable. I tried a magnifier a few years back; it was cumbersome. BTW, I don't need one now, thanks to Firefox (Ctrl+).

From PC Mechanic Newsletter #135:

Virtual Magnifying Glass is designed for visually-impaired and others who need to magnify a part of the screen. Unlike most similar programs it does not open a separate window for the magnification but instead puts a movable magnifying glass on screen.

Virtual Magnifying Glass is a free, open source, screen magnification tool for Windows and Linux. It is simple, customizable, and easy-to-use. With over 170.000 downloads and a 5 years history, the magnifier aims to bring an easy to use accessibility tool to those who need it.

Try the magnifier in XP. All Programs / Accessories / Accessibility / Magnifier.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly, but it's related.

Thanks but no thanks, Tony. :frown:

I think the "Virtual Magnifying Glass" I asked about puts the magnifier directly over what you want magnified......now that sounds like it's easy to work with! :yo:

I checked out the XP Magnifier, and it's the one I tried a few years ago and thought was a crock. In fact, this time I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the darn thing! It hid part of my Taskbar (which I keep to the right of the desktop), and I could not get to Start > Programs. I right-clicked on the Taskbar, unlocked the Taskbar -- nada. I thought I was going to have to do a System Restore. Luckily a right-click on the XP Magnifier came up with Exit. One click and it was gone.

So, lesson learned ..... when in doubt, right-click!:)

yup - I gots to agree with ya - not an easy app to grasp. But it does work. Just mentioned it because it's already on your computer. A friend of mine purchased a MS wireless optical mouse that came with a real nice magnifying program. Maybe it's the one you mentioned. Don't know, but it was easy to use.
