I for one am really surprised they put Ted kennedy in there. I couldn't agree more but am just surprised from a Republican publication.

Rich
In the article, they discussed that their selections were based on several factors including effectiveness and service to the Senate. Political opinions did not seem to be one of the criteria.
They say the Senate is the world's most exclusive club. But the real elite is made up not of those who break in but of those who make a difference once they get there.
As far as Time magazine being a Republican publication, I think they have moved substantially to the middle since Henry Luce died (1967).

I'd add some more to the worst list:
Orin Hatch
Rick Santorum
Robert Byrd
Mitch McConnell
Ted Stevens
I'd add the following to the best list:
Russ Feingold
Chuck Hagel
Charles Schumer

Me too John!
I'd be a little hesitent about Hagel, only because he built the voting machines that elected him. Could be considered a slight conflict of interest?
I would put Liebermen in the worst catagory, but, upon reflection, that would merely be rewarding a mediocrity.
Thumbs up for Feingold.

To the Worst List, I'd like to add:
Senator Bill Frist
He's a flip-flopper and self-professed clairvoyant (diagnosed Terry Schiavo via television) who has many conflicts of interest. His constituents are the drug and insurance companies. Thank God, I don't think he stands a chance in hell to make it to the Presidency; he looks too much like a caricature of an undertaker ..... but then again look at the cheerleader we have in the White House now.

Frist is bad. I still like Hagel. He is out spoken and isn't afraid to speak out against his party. He doesn't blindly follow GW and the other Republicans. I'm surprised my picks didn't spark more discussion. Rick Santorum is about the worst to me. This guy is just whacko. I'm pretty much in the middle politically. I am somewhere between a conservative Democratic and a left leaning Republican. I guess I'm a moderate that is a little right of center. I also like John McCain. Up until recently he is usually on the mark. Right now he seems to be trying to apeal to GW's base.

John,
I used to love John McCain, but now I think he is the worst "political whore" I have ever seen. Roll back to 2000 and see what those animals did to him, and imagine him so desperate for the nomination he is running around with his nose up Bush's and Fallwell's asses, like it's brain food for him. Give me a break he stands for nothing, means nothing just an aging pretty face to be elected. We need another man with no principles in this office? See what 5 years of such BS has done to this country?
