Everyone,
I'm just sharing some recent research on the topics of..

- Successfully and legally marketing via Email.

- Tips for using a mailing list manager like Dada Mail so that
you are operating legitimately and not classified as a spammer.

- Can-Spam Act of 2003, laws, requirements, penalties, etc..

It's too much to post all the text of the articles here so I'm just posting
the titles and links below and opening the topic for discussion.

Ou***anding research. Did you do this research for a client? your own curiosity? Or are you considering offering email marketing services?

The first source (Tips for Successful E-mail Marketing) did an excellent job of outlining email marketing within the requirements of the Can-Spam Act (maybe that is why you listed it first). One of the things that it mentioned was that marketing emails must be identified as advertisements. I recall that in the immediately after the passage of Can-Spam, I would occasionally receive emails with "ADV" in the subject. I have not seen anything like that in over a year.

The third source (How to Comply with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003) is one of the most annoying web sites that I have seen in a long time. When you go there, there is a pop-up asking if you want to subscribe to their newsletter. There is no way to decline and no way to scroll past or otherwise proceed without subscribing. As a casual visitor, I simply left the site. If you want to require registration for entry, that is one thing. But that pop-up from hell is horrible. http://www.coloradoscca.org/prodcar/images/smiles/puke.gif Sorry for the rant.

Thanks for the post - very informative.

Intersting story.. A client of mine is on MSN (ISP) and was sending out lots
of email to potential real estate customers. Well, MSN determined that
he was a spammer and disabled his Emailing capabilities. I did the research
for him and I got him his first website and some new email account with
WestHost web hosting service.

Then we find that MSN is doing something where he can't even send
out Email using the WestHost servers!! Now in the process of
dumping MSN now and switching to Verizon. Good riddance MSN!

Yeah, I had to educate myself real quick on how to set him up with
a Mail List Manager and teach him how to do it all legally and ethically.
Dada Mail is a great solution that Westhost offers for the mail list manager.

Thanks for the heads-up on that site. I never even saw the pop-ups
because I'm using Mozillla with built-in pop-up blocker.

Pete I assume when you say you are using Mozilla, you mean Mozilla and not Firefox? Do you know about Sea Monkey, which is the newer Mozilla full featured Mozilla browser and I have been using it for a few months now and love it.
