Thought I would post this here as they are getting psyched about this open source ability to recover data from screwed up FAT associations and dead or munged hard drives. we have yet to see what it does with NTFS.

There is no install, just click the exe. When the window opens, you will see a dropdown box in the top left side. Find your bad drive number in that box. If the geometry of the drive is off (I'm finding this quite often these days), then testdisk has the ability to change it, from what they saw in the program.

Thanks

FYI, I've used a program called Bad Copy Pro several time to recover data on floppies. What I really like about it is that it doesn't touch the original disk. It just tries to get the data off and it usually works.

Recently I used it on a Smart Card from my brother's camera. He deleted all the photos. The program recovered all the deleted files.

Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro has been the most successful in all aspects for me. Even if hte entire filesystem has been removed or corrupt, it can rebuild it and recover as much data as possible.

I just Googled and found it at www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/.

Reading thru the page, there's no mention of recovering data from hard drives - just removable media. Don't know why it wouldn't work for a hd.

I have the full version. At $40, it was worth it.
