Operating system: Windows 2000 Pro

it boots up and goes to the windows splash screen such as:
(screen same as posted url below: winsupersite.com - link)

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews/whatsnew_1.gif

then after that goes off, I see an very breif view of an blue screen for less then an sec.

The computer completely reboots it self again and starts over again. It does not stop until, I turn the computer off.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to get the booting process started?

** I have done..
fixboot, fixmbr under Recovery Console from the windows 2000 pro install disc.

I have looked at:
http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2243&highlight=bootcfg
but, I didn't seem to find bootcfg on the windows 2000 pro disc. Not sure, if you can only use that on xp or just need to use an xp disc.

Thanks, if anyone could be any help.

Isee,

Do you have msconfig.exe loaded into the Winnt\ folder? IF YOU DID NOT LOAD IT - it is not there! BUT, you can copy it from the internet.

Boot W2k in safe mode, go to Start \ Run \ msconfig (after you copy it to the Winnt directory). Go the the last tab - and here you will be just like in the W98 \ W-XP configuration and remove EVERY thing that is not required to launch Windows.

You don't reference anything having been loaded or updated since this problem started. You don't reference what kind of system it is. So I can only have you start here to see if something is loading in the services (which apparently would be corrupted since you get the splash screen and that is when the services are loaded).

I would do the 2000 Repair by booting to the Windows cd passing the first "R" option and choosing new install, and then choosing the second "R" for repair.

I got it booting up and working now.
the method: mylanta posted is what I did to get it completely fixed. I couldn't get it working at frist, but after messing around I got it working.

I have windows updates to redo and stuff, but that does not bother me as it looks like I still have all of my data and files there.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Might be a good idea to do a virus and malware scan. Wasn't that what the "Wolf Blitzer" virus was causing Win2000 machines to do? Also not a bad idea if your computer starts acting buggy.

"updated" 5-11-06

Before, I reboot it. I was doing scans, for malware, adware & virus. Once, I rebooted then I couldn't get booted up. I think, I may of accidently delete something or done something wrong. its not that hard to do.

hard to say it could of been malware, delete file or an virus. I got it going but, more likely doing clean install soon. Few weeks ago, I try doing windows updates and had issues. Its like the shortcuts are there but the stuff isn't installed. Also there too many registery keys and stuff siting around. Fresh installs, usally work alot better.
(been busy with other things lately few weeks other then the computer)

Currently working on,

backuping up files, trash files i don't want,

then going to wipe the drive and reinstall windows.

not sure, if i'm an fan of that repair job or not. atleast, I can grab files easily now for backups.

Lessons learned from this?
backup backups - those it hard to do went your lazy about something.
That you assume will work good most of the time. If not that, you forget to do it sometimes.

Isee,
So right you learn about the need to backup the most, when you lose the opportunity to do so.
You could try a few more things that might help you beore "wipe and load".
In Run type sfc /scannow and run system file checker. Then run checkdisk by opening My Computer, right click C drive and choose properties, Toos, error checking, and check both boxes in there for fixing errors etc, then you will reboot and it will run. That may solve the rest of your problems, maybe not.
I have usually found when removing a lot of spyware and virus, it is better to reformat and clean install.
Also time for decent antivirus and antispyware prevention. Spywareblaster with Spybot is a great free combo. then buy www.nod32.com (http://www.nod32.com) to get the best antivirus and none of this will ever happen again if you update Spywareblaster and Spybot and scan weekly.
