Some information I ran across on this Monitor:
Thanks for the info. I googled onrebate and got some bad info. Mainly,

Tiger Direct doesn't have a good reputation as far as rebates go. I have read many posts that complain about them and say they give a hard time.
Here is a comment from someone that claims to work for the company..
Since I work for HannsG I don't like to give recommendations. Everyone will call me a shill, pimp, etc. and noone will believe me anyway. All I can suggest is that you do your own research and make the most informed decision you can. I enjoy this forum and have learned a lot about spicing up my computer, and I don't want where I work having a negative impact on my interactions here.
Sorry if that isn't very helpful for you.
Edit: as for your question about calls, our call rate is below what we expected it to be. Our return/defect rate so far is below what I have been told are "industry standards". This is my first job in the LCD industry, so I can't verify if what I have been told is completely correct or not.

Where are you getting Tiger Direct, this url is PC Connection?
Someone posted on the other forum that TD doesn't do rebates only payoff if mfgr doesn't honor it? Know anything about that?

Rich,
I myself have never dealt with Tiger Direct but have read a lot over the years where people would not buy something from them if there was a rebate involved.
I buy a lot of stuff with rebates and must admit I collect almost all..
Like I said I don't know anything first hand as I'm just telling you what was said on the Forum..It is a very good deal, best I've seen yet....

Larry,
We agree here I hate them as a resource and think there are no bargains there anyway. Just be thankful we don't libve In Canade, where they are a giant as none of our favorites ship there!

I don't know that brand. Anyone know what this brand is and how reliable they are?
I tend to stick with brands I know like viewsonic, sony, etc. Course my dream is to own a Sony. ;)

PL JohnWill bought this from CyberTechGuy and he says the quality is great!!!! At $129 for an analog/dvi 19" LCD, you don't ask brand name, you buy it!

You guys might not question the reliability but, being a non trusting person that I am, I have to know these things. And have learned a long time ago, that you get what you pay for.
And you'll notice nothing in signature has any off the wall brands either. :D

Yes, because they are the best components. I don't know whether or not they still do, but they used to use Sony Triniton monitors, with the apple logo on the front. I have a crt that is Apple logoed but don't have the adapter for it to use on my pc. It has the Sony Triniton.

PL Lite-on really isn't what I would call major brand name. they were for years a private label maker of drives strictly for Dell before becoming a little more exposed 2 years ago.
The best CRT monitor I ever had, and it is still in my attic was a Hansol.
talk about never hearing of it and I mean 4 years ago, the color on that monitor blows away any Viewsonic, or Samsung I have ever seen and you know as a photographer one thing I do know is color. Beyond all that, I would be willing to bet there are only to mfgrs who really manufacture monitors anyway. Did you know there are only 2 manufacturers who actually make televisions? Also VCR's? All the rest are just names and in the years I owned my video store, I was amazed to learn that.

I don't understand why you think or have read it somewhere, but I've been using LiteOn drives for four years. And the first one didn't come in a Dell cause I've never owned a Dell.
Yes, some off brands are good, but for myself only, I use what I know works. The brands I recognize.

The majority of the parts, and the LCD panels come out of the same handful of factories in Tiawan.
With the glut of parts, and increase in production, many new start-up companies are getting into it. Some are getting great reviews.
They churn them out "over there" at a price where they can undercut the "big names" and, in some cases, are beating them in quality as well as price.
When you buy the parts from the same suppliers, go grab one of your competition's products, take it apart, backwards engineer it, and build the same thing cheaper!
And the "name brands", feeling the heat of the competition and with margins shrinking, are lowering their quality and selling junk....
While the deal may look great ... always look at their return policy and "dead pixel" policy before you buy!
Notice that even some of the big online retailers have a lot of products now with a "no return" policy in the fine print.

I almost bought this monitor around a month ago. It has good reviews at TigerDirect (link here (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2171046&Tab=11&NoMapp=0)). I e-mailed them about their dead pixel policy, and I finally received a response 10 days later:
Total defective pixels allowable is 7, no matter the location on the screen. If there are 2 defective pixels within 1 inch of each other, then this is also covered under our warranty. This is an industry standard that is similar to what other major LCD manufacturers offer.
Many LCD manufacturers allow up to 8, so that's nice.
PS: Some of you seem familiar... ;)

Yes, I noticed. TigerDirect has cheaper LCDs with the suite than without, though (with more mail-in rebates). Just about a month ago TD had the 19" LCD for $180, now $150, who knows what is next. Still, that's quite cheap for an LCD. If you look in stores, you can't find 17" LCDs for so cheap.
