You have to admit this may be the most lax "ruleless" forum on the internet and isn't it more fun than all the Auschwitz's out there I get bounced from all the time!!!!!
And there is never anything mean spirited here either. Wonder if that's a coincidence?

Ah, c'mon! ? You, Rich? I can't imagine that happening here!

That's true, but it could also have to do with total number of users here.
We have a great bunch of people here who know how to act. I'm sure
that big problems would arise after membership increased significantly.
The more members, the more the need for rules because then you have
grounds for dealing with troublesome members.
On the other hand, I've seen some horrible forums that took the
rule thing too serious and too far. Now that's a real turn off.
When I first discovered the KH Forum, you guys had it setup real nice
with a special section that had your few simple rules posted and some
things for the new member to read. I thought that was exceptional.
I like things as they are now but it could also be beneficial to have
more members. However I hope it never grows to the point of hundreds
of new posts each day. I know of one tech forum that is setup just
about as good as you can get and the most professional I've ever seen
but they have so many members and posts daily that it becomes overwhelming.
Everything is good.... in moderation. :)

Pete,
The one thing I was thinking as I wrote that is we are small and that does actually account for how it works, but look at where we came from. They claim to have 10,000 users but everyone is listed 4 times and I would bet there are fewer active users there than we have here out of 2500 that really exist. Feels like about 12-18 users there are the only active ones and half of those are from here.

i couldnt agree more. at the very least we need a brief "rules/guidelines" statement on the home page...

Rich, I routinely participate in about 5 forums and KH is now #1 on
my list, especially now with the new vBulletin software. RBL's BBS
used to be the best, but since the mass exodous about a year ago,
it has gone downhill. Nothing is more discouraging to a user than to
post and not get many responses from various members.
Daily, I log on here at KH and also at RBL's and it's to the point now
where I spend hours here and over there I'm done in what seems like
a few minutes.
Keep up the good work, guys!
PS: Although things went bad between RBL and the various people
who started this KH forum, I think it's important to acknowledge
that without the those "roots" KH would not be what it is today.
No need to be bitter, just be greatful and move forward. :D

Do I sound bitter? What I said actually are facts as to numbers. And yes there is no question we do owe a lot to our "roots" over there.

:focus: While I don't expect to be addressed as "sir',(I remember the first time one of my son's friends called me "Mr."- made me feel as old as Moses) I appear to have made the leap from "Boy Wonder"(Junior) to "Alfred the Butler"(Member). I do not consider it due to my number of posts (this makes 80- all of 'em gems, of course:wink:) but to the fact that after all this time I finally discovered the advanced message interface! You guys let me do this the hard way all this time!:mad2: Got to admit that
the learning curve here makes it even more fun.
Oh, and congradulations, Dale.:clap2:

I'm glad you persevered :typing: until you found the secret.
Welcome to the inner sanctum.

Pete, Freudian slip? :behindsofa:
Yes, the KH forum is great-ful; i.e., full of greatness. :cheer2:
I'm grate-ful to be able to access a forum where all are welcome -- toothless, newbie, computer-challenged, or guru -- and where no question is too dumb to ask  or computer problem too trivial.
The former and current RBL posse members who now participate in this KH forum are the ones to whom I will be eternally grateful. I met them as a "toothless" newbie. Were it not for them, I'd have thrown my first computer out the window.
As for RBL, thanks for the opportunity to meet these posse members. :peace:

Okay, Guys. First dumb question of the day: What is, where is an advanced message interface? I believe they are referring the the Enhanced Interface with full WYSIWYG editing. Look under Options (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions) in your UserCP. It just appears in the editor the same as it does when you post it. Otherwise, you have to link by doing [ url = <input url> ]<link name>[ / url] (without spaces) and type the smilies, ex. : ) (no space) to get: :).

I'm not even sure my answer is correct, but you're welcome, and thanks for the welcome. :)
PS: It isn't over your head. The Enhanced interface is just easier to use and you type it as it appears. There's more to the simple one, such as font type (bold, italic, etc.) and position that you have to type instead of click a button for.

I'd be honored to relinquish my new "Member"- member status to him.
Actually, Lina, I use the Standard editor option; too many Dub'yas in WYSIWYG for my liking. Anything is better than clunking along with the basic editor. Let's here it for the New Kid!:cheer2:

At the bottom of the Quick Reply window at the bottom of a topic, there is a button for Go Advanced. This will give you an enhanced reply window with Preview capability, smilies :) , editing functions like B / I / U, justify, font size / type, and much more. It also gives you access to ieSpell when you access Kicken from IE.

Actually one Dubya is too many (or perhaps two many:eek: ) as we have seen over the past year. :D ... What You See Is What You Get word processors are OK though.

Maybe I'm having a senior moment. I can't see any difference, except that an automatic quote is not possible. In QUICK REPLY, Options, Quote message in reply?, the check box is darkened, and I can't activate (check) it.

Which option do you have in your UserCP? If it doesn't work, you can still type it:
Just put [ quote (=name) ] ..... [ / quote ] (without the spaces, and the =name is optional).
ex. Hi![/ quote]
without spaces would show:
[quote=me]Hi!
Edit: Sorry, I misinterpreted. To activate that feature, you have to click on this button: http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/images/buttons/quickreply.gif next to someone's post to activate quick reply to that post. It's easier just to click the http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/images/editor/quote.gif button or type it, though.

I like the unadvanced reply action. If I could always use the advanced where I didn't have to type out the code, I wouldn't learn anything.
And btw, you can start saying Yes, Mame now since I topped 100 posts today. :D
