Ok, I recently upgrade my computers to a 2.0 compliant USB it has firewire on the board. after installing I realized I needed a couple of more slots and got a second card and it also has firewire (only one they had available). The first one is a Belkin, the second one is adaptec. On installation of the boards it networked and proform the PCI bridge. Now during start up, My computer locks up and I have to reboot, and if I remove one of the cards, wether it be my wireless network card (D-link 520) previously mentioned cards my computer runs fine.
I told you all of the to ask this.
1) Is it hardware issue or software issue
2) could it be a CPU under run, or overload
3) do Belkin (is the OHCI) and adaptec (lists as Texas inst. 1394) play nice together.
any tips ,websites or configs would be helpful, thanks

Well that has to be a hardware issue, Does it matter which card you remove to get it to boot, or will anyone do? If the answer is anyone, I would look to see if you have an adequate psu.

IRQ conflict? Sounds like both fighting over the same ones.
If each card can run seperately with out the other installed, then it is a conflict between them or their drivers.
Do they have any drivers with the card?
Can you boot in safe mode?
Do both cards show in device manager?

They both came with CD, Belkn (on installation)states no need for their drivers, system is already running XP w/ SP2, Adaptec doesn't appear to look for any drivers it just appears in the device manager as network adapter #2 (listing as Texas Instrument 1394 device) . thanks for the tip on the IRQ didn't think of that. I'll start down that road
Thanks for the invite to the chat room look forward to meeting all of you

Sure we look forward to seeing you there as well...of course irq is a bit unusual in XP, but still possible so I assume you will move the cards in slots to see if that helps.

I don't know if this will work in safe mode as it probably does not load or show...
System Tools\System Information\Hardware Resources\Conflicts Sharing will show any conflicting devices.
I would suspect two similar devices with different mnfr. attempting to access the same resource, USB bus, would be reason for XP to have a hissy. You may have to settle for one or the other.
Also check MSKB for info on the USB manager as their may be a limitation to how many ports it can handle. I do believe there is a maximum that two cards may exceed.
