Does anyone know if it is possible to install XP that has SP2 in it using the number of an XP that doesn't have any Service Packs at all? I have XP with SP2 in it and I thought maybe I could install that but I want to use the number of another XP that I'm taking off another computer. This would save me the trouble of installing SP 1 and 2....

Larry,
First of all there is no need to do SP1&2 as 2 will do both for you. And I doubt that you can do what you say but try it and be a pioneer. I have had success doing that with Ms Office where I used SP1 with a 2000 no SP # and it worked. let us know.
Are service packs basically updates? I would guess that wouldn't affect installing the OS. But if the product key is already activated, would this cause problems on another machine? Wouldn't you need a similar mobo or proccessor at least?
Never mind, Larry. I see you covered that on you other thread.

I will give it a try but right now I am in the middle of a build and expect to get the parts I need today. I'll give it a try as soon as possible.

no can do. setup will reject the product key since the "batch" of keys from "original" XP differ from versions with SP1 and SP2.
