When I finished the build on the computer using the SATA drive and let it burn in for a couple of days I thought I would add an old CD-Rom drive I had laying around. It already had a DVDRW installed but I always like to have two drives for copying. Although I don't do much and it was just that the drive was laying here so I thought I might as well use it. Anyway having the DVDRW drive as master I set the Cd-Rom drive as slave and installed it. At first I could get one of the two drives to recognize a disk but never both. If I took one drive out the other worked fine. This cable was hooked into the secondary on the motherboard and since I am using Sata nothing is in the Primary..From here on the computer would hang at the XP splash screen. As soon as Iwould disconnect one of the drives it worked. Anyway I thought maybe it was one of the drives so I went and got another drive but that acted the same way. I then tried Cable select which wouldn't even let the computer boot.
Finally went with two altogether different drives and still same problem. I went in the box and got the HDD cable and hooked it up in the primary connection on the motherboard and hooked the master up and made the CDRom the slave. That worked okay.

Just looking in event viewer and it has "an error was detected on device\device\Harddisk 0\D during a paging operation" Don't know itf that means anything...

So It works fine from the primary connection but not from the secondary connection...

Never mind, while writing that last post it dawned on me I didn't try a new cable. So I just switched the cable over to the secondary connection and everything still works. Which leads me to believe the cable I was using is bad. Thanks anyway..

I guess what really threw me off was that the cable was brand new. I must stop taking things for granted..

Yeah Maxtor hard drives, great case in point. I have less concerns about an old one than a new one!
