View Full Version : Losing me?

Is it just me? Lately, after logging in and poking around a bit, I find that I'm no longer logged in. The box on the upper right no longer says 'Welcome, tonyd". I have to log back in.
I first noticed this at work on an XP-Pro machine. It happened at least twice this week Then it happened this morning on my OS-X Mac. Initially, I thought it was just a fluke, but now that's it's happened at least 3X, I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing or something in the sw.
thanks

I just happened again. I was in Forums and noticed that the Announcements, Feedback forum had a new message. I clicked on the Forum and noticed that I had been logged out.

Tony
I am not having the problem either.
I participate in another BBS that is having similar problems with getting logged out or having to login even though the automatic login option is selected. However, that problem effects all users. Below I have included a posting from the administrator of that forum explaining his problem. I doubt that it applies to Kicken, but maybe ...
Terry
From sccaforums.com:
Guys, this isn't isolated to just us or this software. Thousands of administrators worldwide are experiencing this with their Windows 2003 ASP.NET 2.0-equiped servers. Even though the site is running under ASP.NET 1.1.
It can happen with any asp.net application that uses what is called "Forms Authentication" - such as DNN, CS, and Sharepoint (all of which are having this problem on 1000s of servers).
It's a massive issue Microsoft is looking into, with no resolution yet. It's all over Google, groups, and dozens of other forums.

Tony, it does happen to me..........maybe the board is allergic to Italian-Americans? ..... :smash:
I have XP and am using Firefox.
It seems I have to log in again when I come back after I:-
-- leave a message I'm composing and go to Home, Member list, Forums, etc.
-- leave the forum to check an email that has arrived.
-- click "Preview Post" in the composed message to click an url I posted (to see if it's valid).
There may be other instances I can't recall; but, like all computer stuff I can't understand, I work around it. ...

Today it happened again. I was in the Hardware Problems forum reading about PI's problem getting the mobo to see the hard drive. I clicked to go back a page (to the Forums page) and was no longer logged in.
This was on Mac OS-X (10.4.6) with Safari 2.0.3.

Something you have on system is killing cookies....what are you running in the background for spyware? I would just bet my favorite Adaware's Adwatch!

You may be right about the cookies. However, I run Adaware with AdWatch and am not experiencing the problem.

I'm running a Mac - no anti-virus or anti-spyware programs required, none running.

Tonight while at work at the library (XP-Pro/IE), I was logged on to this BBS for about 3 hours. In all that time I did a lot of poking around the forums, other Internet sites, brought up Excel, Word, Acrobat Reader - the typicall things I do during my shift. Everytime I came back to the Internet Explorer session that was logged into KH did I have to log back in again - it remembered me all night. This was a first.
Now back at home on my Mac OS-X / Safari, it forgot me right after I logged in and went to forums, I had to log back in to post this message.

I was talking to Adam today who has been accessing the forum for a year on a Mac Powerbook, and this has never happened to him, so it isn't a "Mac" thing either.

Tony, I just installed CrapCleaner and the involuntary logouts seem to have stopped. Don't know if there is a connection. Care to try it?

Wow I would love to isolate that one..I do use it at least twice weekly myself. Problem is I love Space Ace, but it predates Firefox and Sea Monkey so that creates some problems with no updating so I never use it anymore.

I'm having trouble following you, Rich. Do you mean:
- you use CrapCleaner at least twice a week?
- you like Space Ace more than CrapCleaner?
- you are using CrapCleaner because Space Ace is not updated to support Firefox and Sea Monkey?
Sorry, you gotta 'splaina mo' seempla for this aging paesano. :)

I'm pleased to announce that I the bbs hasn't logged me out unintentionally all day today on my home XP machine. This includes the fact the I even disconnected from my dial up connection and restarted the machine. I'm also noticing that I don't get logged out when I use the XP machine at work.
This is a good thing. Now I only get the boot when using my Mac.

Did you do anything to your home XP machine that could have solved the involuntary logout problem?

Lina - I didn't do anything that I'm aware of. I don't use that machine except for our PalTalk nights and some work I do in Acrobat for a customer. (I make presentations for him weekly).
The only thing that's been changed is the AVG has updated itself and a while ago I did a Zone Alarm update. It was probably a month ago.

Maybe Smokey fine-tuned things here......and configured it to be politically correct and not discriminate against paesanos. Who knows.:)

Is this the same Mac that you are having difficulty connecting with your ISP (enter.net)? Not that the two problems are necessarily related, but ....

Yes - it's the same Mac. It runs Tiger 10.4.6 - should be the lastest update.
Did I mention the problem with the ISP? Seems that suddenly the Mac and only some of the ISP's modems don't get along. So it works with some dial-up access numbers, doesn't work with others - even the ones I've been using.

A few days ago I switched from Safari to Firefox on my Mac. This is the machine I usually use at home to view this BBS. When I was on Safari, the BBS kept logging me out. It hasn't logged me out since I switched to Firefox. I don't know if it's the actual browser since Lina is having the problem with Firefox, although she's on XP whereas I'm on OS-X. So maybe it's a brwoser setting.

I'm still getting involuntarily logged out, usually when I leave a message I'm composing and then come back.

In Firefox, Tools -> Options - Cookies tab
What are your settings?
I recommend setting just one checkmark for.. Allow sites to set Cookies
Then for exceptions remove all sites or just make sure that the Forum's
site is not listed in the exceptions.
For Keep Cookies, set it to... Until They Expire
SETTINGS .... Make sure cookies are unchecked.
See if that helps.

Is there a place on the home page or somewhere that tells members how to set their browsers? Maybe put in the FAQ section.
