As you know, I'm building a new computer. However, the hard drive isn't detected in POST, BIOS, or XP Setup. There are two ports designated for PATA RAID, and 1 PATA port for non-RAID. So, I disabled GigaRAID, but it didn't work.

The link is here (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1951&ProductName=GA-8I945PL-G). In the FAQ it says:
My motherboard comes with onboard RAID controller. Why can't I install OS or get into Windows when just install one SATA (IDE) HDD?The SATA (IDE) RAID feature is enabled by BIOS default setting. Please get into BIOS while BIOS POST, and make sure the RAID feature is disabled by related BIOS option.

Any ideas?

Edit: More info:
Primary IDE set to Enabled, On-Chip SATA Mode either set at Auto or Combined with PATA @ either 0 or 1, Onboard GigaRAID set either to ATA, RAID, or disabled. I tried combinations that didn't work.

Have you attempted a BIOS update? I would configure the board to boot with a known hard drive, load the OS, etc, etc, and then go out to the Manufacturer's web site and see if they have a newer BIOS file.

I got an Intel mbd once that would not boot with the processor I had bought. Contacted their Tech support and the tech said the motherboard needed the newer BIOS. Got an older processor, booted, yada-yada, got to Intel website, downloaded the newer BIOS, and BAM - the new processor was placed in the computer and it flew.

Flashed the BIOS to the newest version (F7), but it didn't work. I also tried downloading the driver listed for preinstallation with XP setup, but I got:
File \WIN XP\iteraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.
Press any key to continue.

Edit: I forgot to load all of the extracted files on the floppy. If anyone else has this problem, you have to double-click the .exe file you download (preferrably already copied to the floppy), then allow it to extract every file, then, if not already on the floppy, copy all files and folders to the floppy. Remember to press F6 when XP Setup is loading.

So far it works, thanks!
