A friend of mine is shopping for a laptop and wants to spend ABOUT $500. He has seen some Dell laptops in this price range on ebay. They tend to be Celeron based machines. All he wants the laptop for is to cruise the internet. He has a DSL connection and a wireless router so he wants to be on the internet anywhere in his home. He isn't a power user and would run Office 2003 on the laptop. He would also prefer to buy a new laptop rather than a used one. He has speced out a laptop at Dell's site and can buy one for about $550 to $600. Any suggestions????

He already bought a Dell laptop on ebay. The laptop is brand new. It seems like he got a decent deal. The laptop was auctioned for $600 and has a dual core 1.66 processor, 512 Meg. of RAM, 40 G hard drive and CDRW/DVD combo drive. The screen is also about 15.1 inches. I think he got a pretty good deal.
I was surprized to learn how the seller acquires the laptop. If someone customizes a PC or laptop at the Dell site and doesn't pay for it Dell sells the computer for 25% off the price to other buyers.

That is a good deal to get a dual-core at that price. He could add more RAM and/or a hard drive with more storage later if necessary.
