View Full Version : Remember me?

When using my Mac OS-X with Safari, the KH site would never remember me when I logged in. I thought it was just a Mac thing and didn't worry about it. Additionally, at work on XP Pro, I noticed the same thing - the site wouldn't remember me. There I thought it was just the restrictions they have on either the machie or the network.

By remember me, I'm talking about putting a check mark in that little bos that says 'Remember Me' next to the boxes for your log in credentials.

Now that I can't connect with my usual Mac TiBook, I've switched to using my XP Pro and Firefox 1.5.0.3. I'm seeing the same thing - the site doesn't remember me when I return. I have to manuall log in each time.

Anyone else with this issue or is it just an ethnic thing?

Tony

When you are finished in KH do you log out or just go to another site?

I do not log out and have had no problem returning.

Because some members (you and Lina) have this problem continually and others like me do not experience it all suggests that it may be with how the site is used rather than the software itself. If there was a software flaw it seems like we would all experience the problem.

Thanks Terry - That may explain it, I do log out. What's the purpose of the 'Remember Me' box if you don't log out? Isn't that the reason for that option? To remember you each time you visit the site so you don't have to log back in?

Another thing I noticed is that when logging out, I have to log out twice. I think the first time I log out, it says cookies are cleared and the second time is when the user name goes from Tonyd to the user log in boxes.

thanks

Happens to me whether or not I log out.

I just read the latest new post, clicked New Posts on top of page and had to log in again.

I agree with all the above, however, I found that it works best
if I never log out. I simple close the browser or navigate to a
different site. --pete--

Do any of you have any software your using that deletes cookies on leaving a browser? If you do, that would explain why you're getting logged out each time.

I too never log out, and have never had this problem but if I delete all my cookies, then I have to log back in.

I've done nothing to delete cookies on leaving a browser. I'd like to add that the site doesn't remember me even if I only log out from the site, go to another site and then come back - without even exiting my browser.

Could it be a setting in the browser's privacy? Right now I'm on an XP machine and it's set to accept all cookies.

I don't know. What are your settings in privacy tab? I've got mine set to medium.

I used to use Jason's-Toolbox Cookie Jar, but that hasn't been updated since 2002 so I quit using it. I've looked for another to replace that one but haven't found one I like yet.

Get this - a while ago I shut down this machine because it wouldn't let go of my USB flash drive. I restarted it and about 10 minutes later I fired up IE and went to KH. Wow - what a surprise - I didn't have to log in!!! It said Welcome Tonyd. This has never happened before. Something is strange here.

Here's a clue - I don't think I exited IE before shutting the machine down. Maybe that helps.

I don't know if not exiting IE was the fix or not. I can exit IE, and I'm logged in with Opera, exit Opera and open IE and I'm still logged in here. Something in your settings is wrong, but where they are wrong, is the question.

Yes - I think it's a setting somewhere, but where? Well, maybe it's a setting at KH because it happens to me on 3 machines and I haven't paid any attention to the settings on either of them. Could it be a setting in my profile?
Machine #1: Mac OS-X, using Safari
Machine #2: XP-P, using Firefox
Machine #3: XP-P, using IE

I might just create a new user and see if there's something in my Tonyd account.

Wash the garlic off your fingers before you hit the keyboard, and make sure your new user name is not ethnic?

Seriously, Tony, I admire your persistence.

Tony, I just installed CrapCleaner, and the involuntary logouts seem to have stopped. Don't know if there is a connection. Care to try it?

What do you think it cleaned? Maybe a corrupted cookie or something?

I'll see what happens when I'm on an XP machine tomorrow night while at the library. I think the last couple of times on the XP machine it didn't log me off all night.

CCleaner won't install on my Mac which is what I normally use during the day. I'll have to see how my home XP machine behaves. If I'm still having problems with it, I may load CCleaner on it.

Wow!! I couldn't believe it. This morning when I fired up my Mac as I usually do and logged into KH - guess what - I remembered me. I didn't have to log in. My 'Kelly' user name was displayed in the top right.

I read Lina's recap of Wed's PalTalk. Then went to post this message, only to find out that I was now logged out and had to log back in. Curious indeed.

Tony, I'm afraid there has been a relapse and CrapCleaner did not solve my involuntary logout problem after all. Frustrating!

It seems to happen most frequently when I'm composing a message, click Preview or check another site for a quote or information.
