Word on the street is that Western Digital Corporation, a leading manufacturer of desktop and enterprise storage devices, has been offering a "trade-in" program for owners of older Western Digital desktop drives.

A poster on the RedFlagDeals.com forums gives some details on Western Digital's Customer Loyalty Program including pricing on the models you can receive discounts for and our contact over at Western Digital has confirmed this program with the following details:

WD Customer Loyalty Program
WD’s Customer Loyalty Program offers customers the opportunity to upgrade their current WD hard drive to a larger drive. Under the program, a customer may purchase a new drive with the full manufacturer warranty at a discounted price.

Customers who participate in the WD Customer Loyalty Program are not required to return the old product and also benefit by the ability to upgrade to WD's latest technology. Customers may also take advantage of WD’s extended warranty when purchasing product through the program.

To participate in the program, a customer must simply provide one valid product serial number for each upgrade product purchased. These serial numbers will then be void of warranty.

Customers will receive a discounted price on a new WD hard drive. Pricing varies and is dependant on a variety of factors, such as capacity and model, among others.

Products may be upgraded to products within like technology. For example, only customers upgrading external products may upgrade to another external product. Customers with internal hard drives may not upgrade to external products.

Pricing and availability are subject to change.

For more information, please contact WD’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-275-4932.

That's nice to know, but looking on their page for what drives you can get, I use only IDE drives, their only drive in that configuration is a 250 for $77. I can get that from my supplier for $93. Not much of a savings for me, eh?
