Hi, it's me, TonyD. I'm trying a new account to see how if there are still problems with 'remembering me and losing me'. I created a new non-Italian looking account on Mac OS-9.

Question #1) While registering, in the Image Verification section, are the letters case-sensitive? If the are or if they are not, I think a note should be put in the section letting the registrant know.

Question #2) Why is a birthdate a requirement while registering? I remember when I first logged in that it rubbed me wrong. Now that I'm in here, I don't see a reason for a mandatory birthday input.

Observation #1) There's a bunch a 'smiles' on the right of this 'Message' box that I don't think I've seen before.

Nice pseudonym ... vBulletin will never suspect any Italian heritage. :)

In answer to your questions.

1. I have not seen the vBulletin Image Verification since my ID was converted from our phpBB system but I would hope that it is not case sensitive. I despise case sensitive passwords and other data entry. Obviously, the Image Verification is intended to discourage bot sign ups by requesting a specific response to a random request. Adam can probably shed more light on this feature.

2. I am not sure why your birth date is requested. I remember feeling the same turn-off as you. I was satisfied when I saw that there is an option in the User Control Panel | Edit Options to hide you age and birth date or just your birth date. OTOH if you don't hide your birth date, it will give Lina an opportunity to wish you a Happy Birthday.

3. There are a couple different response windows. The Advance option does have the smilies next to the text window and gives the option to preview your post. The Basic response window has a button / bar underneath it to take you to the Advanced response window. There is also an option in the User Control Panel | Edit Options | Miscellaneous Options, to selected Enhance Message interface.

I raised the question about birth date when the new board debuted. Paranoid me used a phony one and took the option of hiding it.

Terry, other than going to each member's profile, there is no automatic alert of impending birthdays on this board as there was on the old one.......sooo, I wish you all a Happy Birthday for the coming year!! .... :grouphug:

Tony, I'm glad you chose an Irish name. Had it been Arabic, we might be in trouble. ;)

The Image verification isn't case sensitive as I remember it.

I didn't like the mandatory birthdate either.

:embarassed: Ooops ... the list of current birthdays on the Forum page was a feature of the old software.

Turns out by law we need birthdate for registration...it's to prove we do not have underage users should the question come up because that is required.
It has nothing to do with birthday notification. But software defaults to hide birthdays from public so Adam will check that.

Interesting. That makes some sense. However, when I registered under this new identity, I told it that I was born in 2001 - making this registrant only 5 yrs old. If we're not going to police birthdays, then it shouldn't be a requirement.

Adam should have caught that and rejected you!

While reviewing the information displayed on the BBS Home Page, I found the vBulletin does display current birthdays. On the bottom of the right column, there is a window for Today's Birthdays ... and it does work. It is, however, well off the beaten path.

I am just extolling the virtues of vBulletin and not trying to shame you into resuming your thoughtful birthday greetings.

Edit: It also displays as a separate item in the What's Going On section at the bottom of the Forum page. It only appears in this section if there is a birthday on that day.

Thanks, Terry. :hail: This forum is quite an adventure. I keep finding new features which amaze and delight me ..... like interacting with a new baby.

BTW, I can't wait to wish Kelly (Tonyd) a happy 6th birthday on January 1.

Thanks again. Just discovered the What's Going On section and Today's Events. Good post there about the KH Paltalk Chatroom. Will include it in my welcoming messages.

Today, I've been using the BB on an XP machine with IE and my new Kelly account. Guess what - it still doesn't remember me all the time - even if I don't log out.

:yo: !! --- Maybe KH doesn't like the Irish either?

For the record, I use XP and Firefox. No change. I still get involuntarily logged out, although I haven't tried cutting down on the use of garlic and locatelli cheese.....

Kerremelk, thanks for trying to help, but I have no idea how to check that! I'm not still a newbie (many wonder about that), but often I don't understand what most members here consider basic computing.

Tonyd (Kelly) is very computer-savvy, and he is having same problem.
Moreover, I don't remember having this problem on our old board or any other BBS I frequent.

I was just kidding (garlic and locatelli cheese) and can live with the involuntary logouts. I never miss a message because I go to and click New Posts after reading or perusing each new post on that list.

Thanks.

Lina
