On Friday, I removed Norton AV on someone's Windows 98SE machine. Norton wanted them to upgrade and they were decided not to. The decision was mostly because they had to upgrade to a newer version and being on dial up, that would be a long download.

Anyway, I loaded AVG on the machine. It found 5 trojans in the first scan. I think they were all in temp internet files.

just a data point ....

You may want to wipe all temp. internet files, temporarily turn off system restore (to get rid of the old ones), clear the temp & prefetch folders, then do some online scans (Panda ActiveScan, Bit Defender, ewido, and Housecall) on that PC, but they may be painful on dialup.

This is an everyday occurrence with Nav onboard, and I would do the online scans say eWido and Bit defender at least to be certain you start out clean.

If you had Bit Defender and did a scan with Norton (over a network, hopefully not both installed at once) then it would probably find Bit Defender's quarantined files "infected". Bit Defender's AV module is one of the best with regards to detection rates, up with Nod32.__________________

I guess you didn't understand what I was saying. If it finds them in quarantine why didn't it find all 10 of them instead of just three?

What is this obsession that every time I start a thread, it gets highjacked by someone for bashing Norton or not bashing Norton. We know you're a die hard Norton fan, but this thread isn't the place for you tauting it.

I think this was accidental...let's see if I can move this to where it belongs.
