We all learned a few things during our KH Computer Help Desk PalTalk session tonight and had a few laughs.:)

"Mr Puns" (NCBQA), Dan R, rbob (Kern), Rich (Mylanta), Photolady, Rob Cohan, Elliot, and Fred Freehold graced us with their presence.

Tonyd (aka Kelly) must have been hard at work; we missed you, Tony! Redwine_7 joined us; but red wine or no red wine, I don't think he was a paesano and could fill the void. BTW, I was correct. It's spelled paesano, not paisano,. Check out http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=paesano for spelling and some humorous comments.

Pigeonhead showed up again, as usual. This time he actually joined in the conversation, in the text box and on the mic! Alas, we can no longer call him our silent partner.

We discussed what should be saved for the customer when reformatting. Photolady was once accused of losing a female client's photo folder. She got hell for two days until the client's husband admitted to deleting the folder because it contained his porn!

We discussed Vista; Admuncher; the futility of getting a PHD in Computer Science; Cable/DSL connections; comparison of E-Machines, Dells, Gateways, Macs; computer tech support fees; computer obsolescence; $299 cheaply made computers; cameras and photography; and a lot more.

And, if I understood it correctly:noidea:, rbob explained that the stuff near the clock on my desktop is called the system notification area or system tray, distinguishing it from the quick launch of the taskbar. BTW, rbob, you can be replaced (just kidding) -- I googled and found this web site with Operating System Definitions: http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/os.htm

Join us next Wednesday night -- guru, computer savvy, not-so-savvy, or newbie. There's something for all of us.

And no politics guys!!! Second week in a row...delightful and as I read Lina's copious notes, we really were all over the place but the important thing, it was a fun night for all (except me my new pc froze then crashed and burned at very end causing me to cancel my cancellation on new mobo I had ordered on Monday to fix this mess!!! DFI is indeed CRAP!)

Many thanks for the notes. It means a lot especially when you can't stay on Pal talk for very long.

Elliot, I was just going to ask Rich M if my "minutes" ....:blabla: .... were too copious or if posting a synopsis (my version) of the our weekly KH Paltalk session just clutters up this forum. Thanks so much for the feedback.

Rich, :sorry: I missed reporting your trials and tribulations with your new pc and the new motherboard. Last night most of the tech talk was by mic and not in the text box which I could use for notes. I couldn't remember--must less understand--it all. :brick:

Lina - thanks again for the minutes. Sorry I wasn't there. I had a topic I thought would be interesting. I'll just post it tonight.

the futility of getting a PHD in Computer Science
Interesting, what was discussed? I'm thinking about eventually getting a PhD in either Comp. Science, Comp. Engineering, or Theoretical Physics (can't decide).

Maybe one of the guys or photolady could chime in here?

If I correctly recall, we discussed whether or not it was worth the time, effort, and money for one of our talented gurus to get a PhD in Computer Science. Consensus: hands-on experience in the real world could prove more valuable.

Pi rules, join us during our next Paltalk session. We'd be interested in your point of view.

Maybe not worth it for them, but it could help me find a career, I'm not sure yet.

Pi rules, join us during our next Paltalk session. We'd be interested in your point of view. Thanks, but I have finals Thurs and Friday next week, so I can't. I might be able to come to a subsequent session.

Good luck on your exams! First things first.
