I salvaged a HP 667mhz computer from a trash transfere station it has a working 17" monitor. It works fine after cleaning up the HDD and removeing all the JUNK! I did not reinstall Win/98 due to wanting to spend a lot of energy on finding drivers. The last obviouse reminantes of the previous owner is this pesky network logon. Any help with its removal would be great!

Thanks in advance.

open Control Panel, select Network, select Primary Network Login, choose "Windows Login".

If that doesnt work try the following as necessary:

download and install Microsoft TweakUi and select automatic login.

OR,
open control panel, click network. remove Client For Microsoft Networks service.

You may also want/need to delete passwords:
In Password Properties check "All users of this PC use the same preferences..".

open C:\Windows folder- delete all .pwl files

click Start, Run type--> Sysedit
Open system.ini , then delete all lines under "Password Lists" , close and save changes.

lehatche, fear not. Spell Check and a fix for some glitches are in the works for our relatively new forum. We encourage and appreciate suggestions and comments about our setup! Please post them in the Feedback forum. Thanks!

I can't help you with the removal of the network logon, but I'm sure you will get help from others here.

In the meantime, :welcome: .... Glad to have you aboard. .... :yo:

We invite you to also join us in our KH Computer Help Desk Paltalk chatroom each Wednesday night, from 9 pm until whenever. Here's how to get there:

KH Computer Help Desk

* you need to download Paltalk messenger 8.3 software first if you don't already have Paltalk on your system.

In the chatroom you can find or give one-on-one, hands-on help for computer problems, teach or learn about new developments in computers and software. Computer subjects get first priority. If there is a lull, then humor, finance, and whatever can be discussed intermittently. We try not to talk about politics or religion .... there's enough disagreement about antivirus scanners. LOL

Hope you'll visit us there, too.

As Lina mentioned, we hope to have vbSpell, the vBulletin spell checker, up and running shortly.

If you are using IE, an interim solution is to download (free) ieSpell from

http://www.iespell.com

I have been using ieSpell and find it very effective.

Try deleting stored passwords. Search for *.pwl files. Remove them or put them someplace other than the folder they're in. If I'm right, when you restart the computer, it'll ask you to sign in and I think there's a note that if you click 'Cancel', it won't ask you in the future. If I'm wrong, oh well ....

Kelly has it almost right.

Remove the pwl files, restart the computer, put in a USERNAME, leave password blank, and your done.

Oh the days of Winders 98.

Thanks All! It's nice to be in a forum were no matter how simple the question or answer is, you get a non-insulting response. Todays winner for the for the solution that worked on this machine is Kern. I had already tried the others with no positve results. Lina, thanks for the invite! I think I'm going to like my new home.
