View Full Version : Welcome Screen

Once last question (maybe two)for the night.

1.Prior to my system crash, I had my system setup that, when I would boot, it would not show the Welcome screen and wait for me to click on the one user I have (me-Administrator). it would go directly into the loading setting environment. I can not seem to re-create this. I believe I do it in the Control Panel/User Account area but I can't seem to get it. Can you explain?

2. On the Desktop, I have an ICON for MS Outlook 2003 starting the MS Outlook Calendar. I want this to start up when the system is booted. I copied the path to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" It does start when a boot is done however, if I minimize the calendar, I get a minimize task showing in the task bar. If I close the calendar, the icon is removed from the sys menu (near the clock). Again, prior to the crash, I can't remember for sure but when I either clicked the minimize button or close the app, the icon would still be in the sys menu and showing me it was running in the background. Can you help re-establish this?

Again thanks to all. I'll check this post in the morning.

1. My machine starts as you wish your to. In the User Account Control Panel, it shows 2 accounts. One it the one that I use, the other is the Guest account which is turned off.

2. Put a shortcut to Outlook in Documents and Settings/<User Name>/Start Menu/Programs/Startup.

1. The problem I had with the Welcome Screen, has been resolved thanks to you. I had a 3rd account (not showing on the screen) that also had to be turned off. During my initial setup, I did turn Guest off.

Problem 2. Not resolved.
I created a shortcut and placed it in:"C:\Documents and Settings\Samuel Ceccola\Start Menu".
The Calendar does start up on a boot but when I "X" the calendar off the icon is removed from the sys menu. I have checked the Task Bar Custom Options and for this MS Outlook Icon, I say "Always Show".

It seems to be the calendar is closed when I "X" the app. I do NOT want that. I want it running in the background. The only way I have a round it right now, is to minimize the Calendar when I don't want to see the full screen. This sets up the minimized form in the Task Bar.

There must be a way to run the calendar seeing the icon ONLY in the sys menu?

Hi Sam,

Well I don't use Outlook at all, but you should should have the ability to leave the calender open in the "options" section. Have you poked around in there?

Sam - wrong folder - put the shortcut in Documents and Settings/Samuel Ceccola/Start Menu/Programs/Startup. See if that gets Outlook to open when you boot.

Folder was changed however no difference in running.

I must not be explaining the problem correctly.
-Currently, MS Outlook Calendar starts up when the system is booted.(this is what I want)
-I'm not sure if they are called "TSR's" any more but do you remember the old background running programs?
-What I want is when I minimize or "X" off the calendar, it does NOT put a minimize form in the Task Bar but stays active in the background. The purpose of doing it this way is I will automatically get all my reminders without having to restart Outlook each time. (except on a boot).
-THIS CAN BE DONE. I had it this way before the crash of my system but I don't remember who helped me get it that way.

I don't use Outlook but did find this.

Scroll down to- Add an Outlook Toolbar to the taskbar.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your suggestion however, I do have the Calendar starting when I click the Icon.

My current problem is "how do I get the Calendar running in the background so that I can constantly get my reminders but not have a minimized form in the Task Bar. Only have a visible icon in the sys tray.

I had this before my system crash last week. Sorry to say, I don't remember who helped me set it up.

I believe it was a member of our BBS but I don't want to mention any names because, if I am wrong, I don't want to put anyone on a spot.

Problem Resolved: Would you believe it was a VERY SIMPLE solution. All I had to do was to Right-click on the MS Outlook icon in the systray and then left-click on "Hide when Minimized".
