This morning, I was installing some updated/new drivers for the Intel MB I have on this system.Board ID: D845PEBT2

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=899&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

The last thing I installed was: . USB: USB 2.0 [USB2.0.EXE] (1106KB).

After installing this, I lost my connection (reference) to my "E" drive. It's no longer in "My Computer". It is in Device Manager (see attachment).

If your motherboard already supports USB2.0, and you have XP w/SP2 you didn't need those drivers.

Sam, I'm assuming that you were able to see the drive before installing the updated/new drivers. Can you use System Restore to go back to where you were before the installation? If so and it works, I'd stay with it.

Do other USB devies show up? This must be the week for USB. Yesterday I went to transfer files from a hard drive connected via IDE/USB adapter to a Win2K machine. The machine saw the USB drive when I connected it, but it didn't show up in My Computer. Device manages showed yellow ! indicating that the correct driver wasn't installed.

Is their a way to back it out?

Hey folks:

I got it back.

Unplugged it, turn system off, and then plugged it back in. Turn system back on and found the reference in "My Computer".

Thanks for the help
Sam

Unless my memory is faulty, none of what you did had anything to do with this Sam, because the drive insn't usb, it's firewire.
