This should be a _required_ install for every XP user.
Sweet! Thanks Doug.
If a user was getting the WGA popup for an illegal XP, I wonder if disabling it with this program would prevent the popup. Although it may be too late by that time.
Also, does anyone know if the WGA can disable the operating system if the user doesn't call Microsoft within a given time period?

I have seen a number of methods for eliminating problems with WGA all over the web....
Easiest way is do not install 5474 update!
Auto-update has caused so many problems... I always wait a month and manually pick through them avoiding anything that turns out to be an M$ screwup.

If you don't install WGA how are you still able to get the updates. I thought that was one of the requirements of continuing to get updates. How is your security without getting updates?

You will get all critical security updates without using THIS 5474 patch if you use the WGA bypass:
Validation check bypass
Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:
javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')
There are also alternative ways to disable the WGA.dll on the web.
Should you have already installed it and can't be rid of it, other than having an image file that pre-dates it, there are methods listed on the web to disable it.
Note that some specific DOWNLOADS from M$ will not work without it.

That 'workaround' and the trick of disabling WGA have not worked for a couple of months. If you have been avoiding downloading the vendor-sponsored virus (as I have), you can no longer get critical updates without accepting WGA.
This was discussed several weeks ago:

I have seen registry edits that purport to 'kill' WGA but I really don't want to go that far. Given the recent volume of critical updates, most holdouts will have to give up to keep their machines protected. :frown:

Terry is right as I just tried all the known fixes out of curiosity (my versions are all legitimate but I wanted to see if I could beat the thing)and none of them work anymore.
Seems like Microsoft finally solved their problem.
