A friend ask me to review a Video Professor CD set titled "Learn How to Buy and Sell on eBAy"

There are 3 CD's. I tried each one:
#1 - is suppose to be the Basic Lessons
#2 - the medium
#3 - the advanced.

My impression:
As I tried to review CD's #1 and #2, they were full with unwanted advertisement. All I saw were ads for Security and Identity threats. Unless I wasn't patient enough, I never got into the meat of the product (Learn eBay...)

CD #3 - really bothered me. When I did the auto run, it told me I had to disable ZoneALarm (my firewall) and NOD32 (virus, Trojan, etc blocker). There is no way I'm going to do that. That tells me they have "hooks" to pull info (or to put unwanted info) in your system.

Has anyone else ever used these products?

I saw a commercial on tv for this junk and was almost jealous I didn't come up with the idea to take money from people for nothing. I can't understand why anyone would buy this junk. If you are new to ebay all you have to do is navigate the site and learn from tutorials, etc.

This stuff is junk. Let's face it, if you are selling or buying on eBay or any other site, hopefully, you will have the common sense what to write. The eBay tutorials you mentioned do have some posting ideas.

I don't know what my friend paid for this but I am very surprised he bought it.

Sam,

There are really 2 levels of these Professor cds. I think your friend got the "trial" version for shipping only and there is a teaching level that is more the "true" product.

The trial version will teach you "something" but the full versions don't have the implanted ads (which are REALLY what is paying for the cds) and are more indepth.

The request to disable a firewall and antivirus isn't a "new" concept. I have several proprietary applications that have the same "request" but still load anyway. The (I guess you could call) problem is that you get prompts through the installations to write to the system files and possibly access for updates immediately after the install is completed (the reason for the firewall disable).

As a newbie, I did try Video Professor CDs. I'd hesitate to buy something like the e-bay version Sam describes.

Have any of you had a good experience with any Video Professor CDs??

I bought some "basic" (W98) Video Professor CDs when I got my first computer. There was no one around to guide me; and, at the time, I was not physically able to get out of the house to take computer lessons. Unfortunately, Video Professor's basic CDs were not idiot/dummy-proof enough for me and were a total waste of money and effort They were no :help: and caused further confusion and frustration.

Introduction to my computer was like learning to hold, nurse, burp, and diaper my first child without grandma around to guide me. I acquired very basic computer skills by clicking the wrong buttons, hitting the wrong keys, and calling my sons long-distance.

... and now you know what you are doing. You learned the hard but correct way in my opinion. Most of this "teaching" stuff out there, tells you to do it this way or that way BUT they don't explain the "why" or "why not"
