Don’t Think About Future Hardware

Here at PCMechanic, forum members offer tons of help to people interested in building brand new personal computers. However, we often encounter a member who wishes to build a top of the line computer and constantly asks whether it would be advisable to wait until the next generation of hardware is released. While it’s essentially the consumers money and they can do what they want with it, we tend to advise against waiting for next generation hardware for a few reasons. First of all, if one is constantly waiting for something “better”, they will never end up building their computer. Additionally, for those who do decide to wait, there is always the possibility that there are unresolved issues with the next-gen hardware and a lack of working drivers. All this adds up to one big headache.

So my advice to you is this: don’t spend your life waiting for “better” hardware as it only elongates your time without a new computer and results in a perpetual process of always waiting for something better. Purely put future hardware options aside and build the computer of your dreams now

There is a "window" where price and availability of the "latest and greatest" start to come together. There is another "window" where the "latest and greatest" start to drive down prices on the last years "latest and greatest" platform.
That's where you get into a great deal of research selecting your parts list and refining your budget.

I had to wait a month for mine, there were huge price cuts (over $100 on the CPU I got I think).

It's just a personal matter for me, but I am choosing to wait for the newer chips from intel. The performance and price sound great. In addition, I'm not going to be ready to build the pc until the Christmas holidays. If some of the new dual core chips come out by fall they should drop in price by Christmas time.

If you have followed the forums, the big Intel price drop will be July ... translte Aug/Sept. shelf prices.
The new platforms will be 1st qtr next year... translate mid summer... but there are big things coming in the new stuff.

...and, I'm not in a real rush. So the new intel stuff excits me. The performance and cost should be a winner. I'm looking forward to it.
