Just some thoughts on the main page:

1) Reduce it down to one page and simplify.

2) Remove Search Forums (search is already up top), Calendar, Birthdays, and Weather. Reduce Mod comments to one window.

3) Expand latest forum topics.

I read the mission statement: I'd suggest moving following to the beginning.:

Also the ads would look better in Banner (468 x 60)
And the latest forum topic is too long.
