Ok, that's the procedure above, but no one is talking about simply
using your firewall to block the WGA application. I'm using ZoneAlarm
to do that now with no adverse effects that I can see.

I just had to get the "newest" version of that and I caught it trying to send data to a server registered as a Hotmail server. I denied it access and nothing bad happened. I know my XP is genuine, so I don't need a program to tell me that.

I use Zone Alarm to block mine, but there are so many easyer fixes (assuming you don't have Zone Alarm allready) that its not worth talking about

Hi Guys

I arrived in this forum and this post as I have a query about WGA.

I request that you treat me as a dummie so I will reach a cure/resilution quicker so assume i know nothing on subject.

My o/s was loaded when I bought pc, it is xp home and I had a key number and a label (OEM) stuck on my tower so its all kosher to my knowledge.

I understand and agree that MS want to prevent pirating because whether you like them or not, they are in business.

What I did not know (but now do) is after re-installing several times, out of neccessity, your license can/does? become invalid. When I found out, this scared me thinking I would have to pay out again (dont know how much) until someone on this site gave me a MS tel number. I rang the number and the person directed me to new code which I do not know as I thought my present one(on label) would suffice.

Now I am getting this star icon in my ST appearing with messages telling me I am invalid and need to do something about it.

I then read in this post that ZA could have a part to play which I dont understand, then I hear that if I do one thing to stop the warning appear, I cant get updates.

More and more I think that once one buys a pc, you spend a lifetime correcting/fixing it rather than use it, I am confused.

If it is considered that windows firewall + NOD32 and others are enough, I will willingly remove ZA.
