Where were you? Rich, Al, Dan, rVidia (new member!), Loop, Photolady, rbob, Elliot, Annie, SkipCox and I missed you last night at our KH Computer Help Desk Paltalk chatroom session. Rich and Skip (I think that was you!) talked way past midnight, during which time I was there in thought if not word and deed.

My apologies, Rich. You may rue the day some of you helped me extend the speakers of my computer into another room. Last night, at about 11:55, I just could not sit pain-free at the computer any longer. I went to another room and listened, while snuggled in my recliner, reading the English subtitles to a fascinating Korean soap opera. How's that for multi-tasking!

We lost Rich for a while. He was listed as in the room but he was not there. A cold boot and return fixed it. Tip: If you have audio or text problems during a Paltalk session, leave, do a COLD BOOT, and come back. A restart often won't do it.

We talked about:

Crap Cleaner - some uncheck cookies, some don't.

Norton Ghost

DSL - speed difference between $20 and $34 (not FIOS) versions.

Broadband vs dialup

Comcrap vs DSL

Vista - I think rbob is testing it, Photolady soon will be.

Al's "New" Computer - after all the discussion last week, research and tips by our gurus, I thought a new computer for Al was a fait accompli! Al, you're not contemplating marriage or enlisting in the military -- it's just buying a computer!

Terrific Monitor Sale - 19" LCD $129 dvi and analog - There's a new url for this:
http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?Sku=6732843 Sam Ceccola is thrilled with the one he bought. Rich tried to talk me into getting one; he said it was like buying a car for $3!

Nod32 and Kaspersky AVs - Al should get paid for the way he promotes Nod32. He exudes enthusiasm about it the way a mother would with her first baby. Just think what he'd be like if he gets that new computer!

"Poor-Taste" jokes in our Humor forum - Apparently BlackMirror deleted a joke that she thought some members would find offensive. We did not think it crossed the line, but we applaud her sensitivity.

Multiple monitors - Rich stressed importance of getting two DVI cables.

Java - We helped visitor Joeymtl with his java problem. Rich thinks I need to install java.

JV16 PowerTools - Are backups automatic? Should I or should I not use it to "clean the registry"? Rich said, "For goodness sake, Lina, never ever blindly run through registry with a broom." I'd appreciate your added comments here: http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5106#post5106

Two Screens

- Elliot suggested two screens, one with large font, one with normal font to facilitate downloads (large font often hides buttons, requiring change in screen resolution).

- Skip suggested this site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3184140&lang=en&rule=36520

Space Ace

- it hasn't been updated for Firefox, so CrapCleaner maybe a better alternative.

- Some of us have crossed the author of Space Ace off our list again, this time for his rude treatment of our member Sam Ceccola. http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2784

Mission Statement - a good reminder for us all: http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2799

Rules - Anyone have a copy of the list of rules our old KH board compiled? We haven't gotten archives aboard yet. If you have a copy, let Rich know, please. In the meantime, COMMON SENSE should prevail as a good substitute.

That's all, folks! Until next Wednesday night....

Sorry, I forgot yesterday was Wednesday.

I was knee deep in a computer problem. When that happens I can't even remember what month we're in, let alone the day of the weeek.:embarassed:

Again Lina, many thanks for summary.
I can't stay up that late, but nice to know what is going on.

I enjoyed the chat. More importantly, I enjoyed finally having the time to pop into the forum...I haven't been ignoring the weekly invites.

Forgive me for keepin' y'all up so late; I often forget Pacific time keeps the eastcoast users up late.

Last night also reinforced the reason I joined KH last year...good people, good advice, and no bullshirt.

I'm the one who should apologize, Skip. I should have alerted you and Rich that I might not be back, or I should have stretched, walked around, and returned to say good night before you left.

Mea culpa. Sorry.

Thanks for adding that, Rich. It happened last week also, and I should have mentioned it.

Everyone: please feel free to add anything I missed or elaborate on something about which I did not sufficiently comment.
