I was at a home yesterday working on an XP Home machine where I couldn't delete a user. There were 2 accounts on this machine 'his' and 'hers'. She wanted to delete her husband's account because he no longer uses the machine.

I logged into her account and wennt into Control Panel / User Account, clicked on His account and pressed the Delete Account button. It asked if I wanted to save the files, I said no, and it just didn't do anything. It stayed at that screen. I was able to create a test account and delet that, so I wondered what was going on.

After some investigation, I found that while in 'her' account, bring up task manager to see what's running and found that the running processes belonged to 'his' account. Then I reversed the procedure and found that when logging into 'his' account, the running processes belonged to ''her'.

Strange.

Create a new account for her to use and remove both "his" and "hers". Something got fubar'ed so this would be the easier to do. You can use the document transfer wizard to move the data if theres a lot. I forget the actual name, but its somethin like that.

Yes - that's what I ended up doing. Seemed the easiest. However, I didn't use the document transfer wizard - never heard of it.

This gives a whole new meaning to "what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine". Perhaps is was part of their marriage vows ... until reformat do us part :D
