Is there any chance of a programming section being added?
I know I am for ever asking why my PHP scripts aren’t working right.
Might be a good addition:evil:

I think it would be a good idea, but who here is good at programming? I know a bit of C++, Java, and vb, but I don't think I could help anyone on anything but basic questions. Even *** doesn't have a moderator for that forum, although Oracle helps out enough.

I think the problem would be the two with the most ability to devote have the least amount of time to spend here.

If you don't add it though, no one can ever come here to use it or help out there.
I know some C++, VB, Action script, HTML, and am working on SQL and PHP currently myself. Again, no one can help if there is no forum. You also don't need a mod right away, anyone can stop through when there are a couple threads and spot things that don't belong. If the forum takes off, then you could find a Mod among your gurus.

Good I'm glad you see the need for it, I know vague VB, but I'm good with HTML CSS etc, and my PHP is getting there.
Like athomsfere said it doesn’t need a mod, just let it lye and remove unwanted threads.

Hi,
I program mostly in VB6, and VBA.
I have a good experience with DOS BATCH.
Intermediate level with HTML
Beginner level with CGI & PERL
I've worked with languages too but those are dead now.
I think if we opened a new "programming" cateogry it would
serve to attract posts on the topic of programming.
The way to convince the operators of this Forum that we need
a new category added, is to begin posting in the "OTHER" category.
After it is proven that there is enough interest and traffic on a given
topic, it would naturally make sense to open a new category on the
topic.
I'm just not sure how many of the current members here are into
programming. What you see posted in this thread might be the
extent of it. I normally go elsewhere with my programming issues,
but hopefully that can change if we get more members here with
programming expertise.

I agree with Pete any programming questions should be placed in other and see how they get answered, if it’s successful a programming section is needed.:boink:

I have to worry that you can't attract new member interested in programming through "Other".
Other so far is very random forum, right now it covers cell phones, telemarketing, desktops, a gift card and some questions that are very much in the wrong forum already.
I can see why you may not need/ want new forums right now. At the same time Programming is one of the few areas that I feel can't be combined with another field, especially when people are looking for help.

I think the Programming section is a good idea. I'm Microsoft certified in VB6. I also know HTML, XHTML, ASP and Javascript. If I had too, I could easily go back to my COBOL and FORTRAN 4 days, Assembly, BAL,Easycoder, and Autocoder would give me some problems.
I don't know how much work is involved in setting it up and maintaining it but I do think, it is a topic that may get a lot of "hits".

Exactly, name the forum Programming help, makes languages the sub forum. Its a great way to bring people here who know how to help those who come here for help.

athomsfere:
Good point - sub forum for the various languages.

Thanks, I usually stay out of this stuff, I used to Mod at another site, and keeping the forums to a minimum was a constant struggle.
That site has since gone under, but clear cut forums were always something I was really into.

I will create the Programming Forum as I do like the idea. It was originally one of them that I did create but I was told by most to remove it due to non-use. For now I will create it, however unless we see a lot of traffic in there, I am not going to create a subforum for each language.
