Without finding the answer.

So, what does GT, GST, XT etc mean in video cards. Ultra is self explanatory, but the rest are confusing.

GT is usually a bottom end, GST middle of the road, and XT the top end.

That explains what they mean in top to bottom line, but still doesn't explain what the G and the T stand for.

I would guess that the T stands for Technology, don't know about the G.

Careful the bootom of the line has none of theose letters i.e. 6600 GT vs 6600

That's correct, the 6600 GT is the better of the low end I would guess. But it looks like I'll never know what those letters actually stand for and will just accept them. Probably some tech at Nvidia came up with it, eh? :)

Its just like the naming convention for cars.
A Cavalier RS is not a "Rally Sport", whatever that manufacturer likes to call it, is what its called. Usually the "cooler" they think it sounds, the better the card is.

I looked it up on Google and finally found the following on some branch of PC World (Australian). ATI (worst to best):
SE, Pro, XT, XT PE

Just don't confuse the XT between the ATI (high end) and nVidia (lower end).
