Got a graphics problem with one of my video playback softwares and went to Intel's site to get help after reading the error message, apparently, Intel has a fix for the problem and it involves installing a specific driver which was mentioned in the error message, I went through the instructions and just before installing the driver, I got this message:
"Installing this device driver is not recommended because windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or stop working completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver?"
I chose not to install until I know for sure what's going on here and also becuase I may have found a fix as mentioned above. From your experience [and I won't hold you to this guys], what would you do after reading that message, just asking your opinions if you don't mind please?

Warning just means driver is not WHQL certified by MS, go ahead and install the driver.

Adding to that statement, you can turn that warning off. I have and have had no adverse effects from doing so.
Right click "My Computer" chose Properties, click on the Hardware tab, in the middle of that window, there is a button called Driver Signing, set it to Ignore - Install software anyway and don't ask for my approval. Loads of software, and drivers are not WHQL and are never or have never been tested to run in XP.

As usual Mike forgets to include important info in his original post, so sorry
The software is Media Player Classic and I am only getting the graphics problem when I use the "skip to next or previous" functions so someone told me to try going options-->output-->vmr7 and vmr9 renderless which I did last night and seemed to work, I will fully test today to make sure.
The graphics problem was if I try to skip to the next video the pc screen starts flickering like crazy and I have to manually shut down the pc after reading these error messages:
"Problem caused by the file ialmrnt5
ialmnrt5 display driver has stopped working normally
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or the device driver"
Another guy on my video forum led me to this
http://developer.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915g/sb/CS-016497.htm
So I followed those instructions and this is where I'm at, that's everything so far, I am thinking that if the solution I had found works which I will know later today then I won't bother to take a chance to install this driver but that is why I came here with this to hear if you guys think I should go ahead with it?

New drivers can take a year or more to be WHQL certified by MS. Vid drivers are often churned out faster than they can keep up.
Set a restore point and install the driver. If it don't work... return from whence you came. This is one area where Restore Points work very well.

GREAT advice, I had forgotten about the use of restore points, thanks! BTW, what is "WHQL" abbreviated for?

Alright, understand now about this whole issue of drivers not being certified by MS, thanks.

Got to ask this, since the driver in the link given above pertains to a specific chipset family [915G] and since I have just found out that my chipset is a different one [Intel 865 GV], should I install that driver anyway seeing that it describes the same problem as I am having?

Is this an ONBOARD video?
If so, use the appropriate driver for the chipset. Check under the chipset # for any updated files.
Is it an Intel mobo?
For Intel chipset on a different mobo, check the mnfr site for any driver updates.

My entire pc is updated, I only looked into this particular driver only because it was designed to help combat a very similar problem like mine albeit on another type of chipset. I think I should leave this alone, since the video software [MPC] seems to be working fine with the adjustments I might as well leave it alone and not go looking for trouble.
