Over the weekend, our cable was out at the station where I was working and clearly a Comcast issue. What a PITA that caused as we use a web connection to do our online charts.
Fortunately, my partner brought a laptop and we managed to get a wireless connection to somebody in the neighborhood with an unsecured wireless....
Support ticket was sent in.
On Monday, I happened to be driving by and saw the Comcast truck so I stopped in to find out what the problem was. Would seem some previous Comcast Tech decided to cut the dedicated internet line and tap it off the old and rotten TV feed to the building ... which had the current tech most perturbed as he had to run a whole new set of lines.
In shooting the bull, I mentioned some of the quirky behavior I have observed lately on some of their servers, my primary node in particular.
Oh boy! Do they have major problems or what?
He rattled on about some major malfunctions throughout the system, massive equipment replacement and overhaul, and how the digital TV services were killing them keeping the (makes lots of money) stuff from driving them nuts!
Overall impression was that cramming so much stuff down the pipes was causing them to leak all over the place and they are in major damage control mode trying to hold it all together from complete collapse.
I have noted that for the past few months, pings and lag througout the system have gotten beyond tollerable and appear at various connections all over the place. They have a serious interface problem with ATT and Sprint backbone systems. Their DNS servers have been increasingly doggy.
Web surfing has become horrible with frequent drop outs, lags, and connection failures. Online gaming has become almost impossible.
FIOS... here's your chance for a knockout punch!
They laid the cables all over the place but have yet to offer service in most areas. What the **** is their problem?
