Hello! :)

This thread is for discussion of various tools to edit partitions.

CompUSA has Partition Commander for free after rebates so I was thinking about getting it. I heard that it isn't as good as Partition Magic, but is it worth waiting for a (possible) rebate? I do a ton of partition creation, resizing, deletion, etc.

In the past, I've used Linux tools, mostly on the KNOPPIX Live CD with a tool called QTParted, but it is slow and doesn't work well with NTFS partitions.

PS: Remember to always backup first before editing, resizing, etc. partitions.

If you ask me the best partition tool I ever saw was the one in the openSuSE installer, of course I havn't seen many, and I tend to be takeing blank hard drives and working from their. So from your point of view, useless I'd guess

It was probably QTParted. It looks like Partition Magic, but doesn't work as well with NTFS. Microsoft won't give details about NTFS to people for free, so it's hard to get programs to work well with it. :(

Check out Acronis Disk Director 10. PM is a great product, but it concerns me it is another company's product that has not been updated since Symantec took over (and this can be as good as it is bad). There is a full active trial version I believe.

I use Acronis' Disk Director. Works fine, however, since it's the only partitioning tool I've ever used, I have nothing to compare it with. Also, consider that since it works so well, I've never needed to look else where.

I use Acronis Disk Director and am very pleased with it; works incredibly well. It includes an OS Selector you can use, which is great for dual booting. I always back up with Acronis True Image before resizing - I guess I'm an Acronis kinda guy :)
