Hi Guys

My relation just rang in a panic, like others, not very interested in computers and cleaning them UNTIL they get a virus.

He has that famous or infamous Norton and he has a virus.

Normally I would visit him and run him through the need to have some progs installed and show him how to remove temp files/cookies etc.

I say normally, but he is involved in buying a property in France at the moment so cant afford to crash, although I will tell him how/what to back up.

What I need is advice on which prog to download to remove any virus that he has, A2/Spybot/Ewido etc and ASAP please.

I'd use the ewido online scanner

good choice - get him to do a Disk Cleanup before scanning. It'll save time.

I asked him to send p/s of error/trojan but when it arrived, I could not open as it was a wps(works) file and I use Word.

I downloaded Word Viwer, then Converter but when I used WV, I got the attached window??

Re: !!!!! help my friend guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendly tip here:)

* Creating an Effective Subject/Title For Your Post (#3b)

- Carefully choose the contents of your Subject header! You have a limited number of precious characters of Subject to entice someone to read your post, so don't waste them. Take care while composing your Subject/Title as they are the key that opens the door to getting an answer to your problem.

- Use a Subject/Title with unique keywords so that you can use the Forum SEARCH feature to find it again at a future date.

- Avoid pleading in the Subject/Title (Ex. Please Read!, Urgent, Help!, etc.) These types of Subjects offer no clue about your specific problem and are often skipped over by the other members.

- Avoid non-descriptive Subject/Titles (Ex. Computer Problem, Is My Modem Bad?, Program Error!) These types of Subjects are lacking details and often skipped over.

- Use a descriptive Subject/Title (Ex. PC Freezes After Modem Disconnects, MS WORD 2003 Not Responding Upon Document Saved.) These kinds of Subjects produce the best results!!! Not only will you get more replies, but also anyone doing a Forum SEARCH could pick out a particular problem amongst a list of other Subjects/Titles.

Pete, the was a great read on how to post and reply on forums! Thanks.

In a nutshell, it's KISS, common sense, and courtesy.

I think choosing one of the icons provided for the title of your post can be helpful also, especially the question icon (all under Post Icons beneath the Reply to Thread box).

I don't think many requests for help or information go unanswered on this forum. Hopefully, there is no need for spectacular post titles. We do try our best.:) :)

That's true, and also the competition to get a post read on a small forum
like this is much less than on a large forum, but even here I tend to skip
over posts with non-descriptive subject titles when there are many other
posts to read on a given day.

This post serves as a good example of how NOT to compose a subject
title if you want to attract the greatest number of people to read it.
Hopefully others will learn by this example too. :)

Same here :) . No offense intended. I'm still struggling to post in the right forum, stay on topic, and create an appropriate title (though perhaps in Humor or Politics almost anything goes?).
