Hi, I was on last week about my broken dvd-rom.Well my new one has just arrived and I remember you telling me I had to remove all the "old" DVD software such as InterDVD. I was wondering if there was any way for me to be sure that I have removed all of it, or is there a list of things that I can check against. I don't want to end up doing something wrong.
Thank you for your help.

Ann:
After you uninstall the software, make sure you restart.
I'd first check Add/Remove Programs (in Control Panel) and see if it is listed in there. Also check your Start menu and remove the shortcut to it, if there is one. Next I'd check My Computer > C: > Program Files and look for any folder containing that software; you can delete its folder if there is one (then remove it from the Recycle Bin). This is usually all you need to do.
If you *really* want to make sure all traces are removed - be CAREFUL (you may want to make a restore point (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/xpsysrst.mspx#ETC) before making changes) - check the registry (Start > Run > type regedit > double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the left > double-click SOFTWARE > delete any folder containing the software (once you are sure the folder relates to that software).
Another approach is to search (Start > Search > For Files or Folders...) that software - you may find something in Application Data - and if you're certain a result relates to it, you can right-click on it and hit Delete (then remove it from the Recycle Bin).
Good luck, Ann :thumb:

Hi Ray,
Thanks for your help, I've uninstalled InterDVD, but was a bit concerned if I missed other software could it cause any problems to the new dvdrom.

I don't think any DVD software installed on your computer will cause any problems when replacing your DVD-ROM. However, old drivers may cause problems, so I'd recommend uninstalling any DVD-ROM drives that are on your machine:
Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager > expand CD/DVD-ROM drives > right-click on the drive you are replacing and click Uninstall

Ray and Ann,
Not to worry about uninstalling dvd rom, as like cdrom, the drivers are ineherent to Windows and that is completely unnecessary.
