What's the story on using a PCI video card in a motherboard that has PCIe express slot?

It should work as far as I know (providing there's an extra PCI slot). PCI's bandwidth is much lower than PCI express', so the quality won't be nearly as good.

While it will work, it is not recommended.
Like running your turbo charged 8cyl on 1 cyl.
It will dog other performance aspects of the mobo.

What I understand by your post is it will work without any harm to the board but would not perform as well as the PCIe card would? Or are you saying the PCI card would harm the board as running an 8cyl on 1 cyl would harm an engine?

No damage, just lack of performance.
