I still cannot open my Hotmail so I want to find an alternative.
I only use HM for forums-purchasing-downloading progs so I wont miss it.
I hear of Yahoo--gmail--and I suppose others so can anyone suggest??
I say again, I want one that does the same function as HM and that is to keep baddie e-mails from my OE.
At present, any replies on this forum or others are not reaching me so I need to keep visiting to check.

My KH replies come to my Outlook Express mailbox. KH replies are too important to me to be lost in Hot Mail, Yahoo, or Lycos. I would use the latter for newsletters, etc, not KH replies.
Three or four investor spam emails a week started to arrive about three weeks ago. I don't think the culprit is KH. My OE is for family, friends, and KH only. The few investor spam intruders may be caused by family members and friends who refuse to or neglect to delete my email address when they forward my messages.
Just my two cents.

Whilst waiting, I did a quick enrol with Yahoo and it looks ok so I have sent a quickie message to friend.I am sure KH is a classy membership, going by the help I have had, but I try to seperate like you if I can.
Not had time to tweak yet so do you know if I can be notified of incoming mail from Yahoo?

I'm very pleased with Yahoo's spam control.
Yahoo gives you these options:
- adding the email addresses of non-spam emails you receive to your address book. That way they never go into the BULK folder.
- clicking the SPAM button when you get a spam email, so that future spam emails from that source will go into the BULK folder automatically
Not had time to tweak yet so do you know if I can be notified of incoming mail from Yahoo?
I'm sure one of our moderators will tell you how to do this. I've forgotten. Sorry.

George, I found how to get your KH replies sent to Yahoo mailbox:
Go to User CP (third from the left of options on top of KH page).
On the lefthand side of the page, under Control Panel, click Edit Email & Password.
Hope I'm correct!

George:
I personally find Gmail a great alternative; I use my Gmail email address for everything I subscribe to (forums, newsletters, etc.) and the only other email address I have (my main one) is my website email address. I'd recommend giving it a try; great spam filter and a lot of storage (1 GB), so even if you don't hoard your emails, the storage is very useful in terms of taking advantage of it/using it as an online backup system (although that's not my only backup method).
If you're interested, I'd gladly send you an invite so you could try it out. More info on Gmail here (http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about.html).

Netscape
Yahoo
Hotmail
Excite
All free web based email with spam filtering.
What most of us do and suggest, is use several accounts.
A PRIMARY private account, like your Comcast, given out only to people you know and trust (and who virus scan their emails), POP3 and dl with Outlook Express, create your filters in OE.
PURCHASE account.
I often use my Excite email for online purchases where you need to receive your confirmation receipt.
Choose one with good spam filtering.
FORWARD your receipts to your PRIMARY secure account and save them out in an OE PURCHASES folder so you don't lose them.
Online purchases may generate a load of ad newsletters.
Be careful to inspect for any checkboxes (always included) saying you want to receive X newsletters and ads.
Use an online service where you can easily block or filter these if you don't want to receive them. UNSUBSCRIBE generally works on these if you end up on a list as they came from a legitimate merchant you purchased from.
JUNK accounts
You may want a couple of these...
Use for: sites where you have to register, email to people you don't know, tech support, etc.
These would be the "high risk" emails where you expect to pick up garbage.
It is often easy to cancel them or change your address if you start to get bombarded. Changing, canceling, or creating a new account is often easier than trying to filter once that address ends up on a spam list.
KH mail
We do have a POP3 email server
Prior to Vbulletin software change, we did get MINED by a bot.
I had to change my KH address when it suddenly got flooded with spam.
No recent problems.

Will check it out later, if it can be done, can I place a s/c icon for Yahoo on d/t.

very condensed answer, point taken and agreed with although for the amount of mail I get, a bit OTT for me I think(just the amount I mean).
From my various requests for help, you would not believe I could teach anyone but I have and do help some absolute beginners and I tell them this.
If you have say 10 friends who you want to write to, give them your personal addie and if you EVER receive mail in your OE other than those 10, delete them.
Then get a HM addie(or others that you list) and only use that addie for buying/downloading/forums.

I received an invite this morning from a friend and I cannot open the links he sent which looks like the same problem I have with HM so I am guessing my problem is with IE?????????see attchments

In IE, go to the Tool menu / Internet Options. Delete Cookies, Delete Temp files and clear History. Try again.

George:
Can you just not open the links your friend sent, or can you also not open Gmail.com (http://gmail.com/)? If you haven't tried yet, I would suggest going to Google.com (http://google.com/) and Gmail.com, and make sure you can view both websites. You should also do what Tony suggested and clear all of those temporary files and then try again.

I don't see an option to put a shortcut icon for the Yahoo mailbox on the desktop, George. However, you can add the site to your FF Bookmarks or IE Favorites.
BTW, I can no longer automatically log in to my Yahoo mailbox. It drove me nuts until someone on the old KH board told me you now have to sign in each time, why, I don't remember. The login holds for an indefinite time, and you can go back and forth to the site for a while without having to log in again. For me, it's worth the small inconvenience.

You can place a shortcut to mail.yahoo.com (http://mail.yahoo.com/) on the desktop, although as Lina said, you would have to log in each time.
In FireFox (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5150#post5150)
In IE6,
File > Send > Shortcut to Desktop

My friend sent me invitaion and link, I got page cannot be displayed just like IE
so I sent it to friend who opened it. I then noticed that even though it did not open, top of screen showed IE. I then did a copy of link, opened Firefox.pasted and it opened so I assume that proves IE is playing up?
There is no panic as I have opened a Yahoo a/c whilst waiting for Gmail but that seems to be solved and I probably can open an a/c, I delayed as it said something about my Gmail would be my default e-mail a/c, will that affect OE at all.
If/when this is sorted, can I do without IE or is that needed for w updates.

That is correct. Internet Explorer is required for Windows Update.
...it said something about my Gmail would be my default e-mail a/c, will that affect OE at all.
I have never encountered anything like that before, although I would assume it would not affect OE, as Gmail is web-based.

Interesting. I once had a similar problem due to the fact that one of the core files had been removed. I'm not sure why that's happening to you, although trying opening Command Prompt (Start > Run > type cmd > OK) and enter sfc.exe /scannow and see if you're missing anything.

Hi Guys
This may help...I have just opened Firefox, typed in MSN, it opened, c/o hotmail, it opened, my e-mail addie was in, just had to type password.
So it works when using FF, how can I do a bookmark for HM as when its opened, its part of IE?? as that will be my answer.
It does not explain how/why its happening of course.

Right guys, the latest.......
I now have g-mail addie which I will change in KH after this message.
What is interesting is that when in GM, I can/did place a s/c on my desktop but it would not open but when I opened G-mail site using FF,I bookmarked "this page".
So when I want GM now, I open FF/bookmark/google/ no problem so although it wont solve the mystery,I will remove IE s/c from desktop and just use FF.

Just discovered (now that I have g-mail) that you can configure your gmail to arrive in MW then OE of course.
Needless to say, although Gmail even has a configuration d/loed to do it in seconds, I cannot do it yet.
maybe I should switch electric on

You have to be invited to join gmail by a friend. Have your friend send you the invitation. Works great.
